Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Staff Nurse to join a team in Westminster. As a Senior Staff Nurse within the Paediatric Neurorehabilitation and Complex Care Inpatient Ward, you'll be instrumental in ensuring the department runs smoothly. Your expertise in the field will be pivotal in guiding and mentoring junior nurses, utilising your extensive clinical knowledge to support them effectively. You'll also be prepared to take the lead in the absence of the Sister/Charge nurse, ensuring continuity of care.

The salary for this role is £42,500 - £51,059  per annum depending on experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Senior Staff Nurse:

  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance to junior nursing staff.
  • Mentor and train junior nurses, assisting in their professional development.
  • Assess and prioritise patient care needs, ensuring high-quality and individualised care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
  • Monitor patient progress and respond to changes in condition, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Administer medications and treatments, adhering to established protocols and safety standards.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff, providing expertise in clinical procedures and best practices.
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring smooth transitions of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including audits, data collection, and performance improvement projects.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers, advocating for patient needs and preferences.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families during challenging times.
  • Collaborate with community resources and support services to facilitate continuity of care for patients.

Relevant Qualifications and Experience of the Senior Staff Nurse:

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Child Registered Nurse (RN Child / RSCN), accompanied by immediate paediatric life support certification.
  • Previous experience in Paediatric Neurorehabilitation and managing complex care needs is essential.
  • Familiarity with caring for tracheostomized patients is advantageous.
  • Proficient understanding of Safeguarding issues is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and mentoring others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical governance principles and experience in conducting audits.
  • Experience in supervising and evaluating students, as well as the ability to lead shifts, is preferred.
