Job Purpose

We are seeking dedicated Paediatric Nurses to provide exceptional care to children and young people (0-17) with a variety of conditions. As a registered practitioner, you will be responsible for efficiently assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, ensuring consistently high-quality, evidence-based practices. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will deliver a responsive and flexible service, prioritising excellence and actively engaging with patients and their families.

Job Specific Outcomes

  • Stay abreast of developments within paediatric nursing practice, pursuing continuous professional development.
  • Perform clinical tasks and risk assessments on children and young people, documenting accurately and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Advocate for patients and their families, providing information and directing them to support services.
  • Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all patients, complying with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with standards.
  • Proactively manage risks and contribute to reducing risk in service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to promote healthy outcomes for patients and their families.
  • Communicate complex information effectively and provide support during emotional events.
  • Demonstrate understanding of medication safety principles and engage with stakeholders to ensure accurate information.
  • Exemplify professional behaviour and act as a positive role model.
  • Comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in quality auditing processes and contribute to service improvement.
  • Undertake scheduled and emergency flight transfers with patients requiring off-island treatment.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • NMC Registered Paediatric Nurse
  • Paediatric/Children’s Nursing Degree or equivalent experience
  • Basic Life Support
  • Safeguarding Level 3 Qualification

Desirable:

  • Clinical Skills qualifications (e.g., BFI, cannulation & venepuncture)
  • Student supervisor and assessor qualification
  • APLS

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Understanding of healthcare-associated paediatric nursing issues
  • Commitment to self-development
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding

Desirable:

  • Experience with children with complex needs

Technical Work Based Skills

Essential:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and support others
  • Calm under pressure with initiative and decision-making skills
  • Understanding of hospital environments and electronic patient record systems
