Job Purpose:

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you'll play a pivotal role in providing high-quality care to children and young people (0-17) with various healthcare needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll ensure a responsive and flexible service that strives for excellence, while actively engaging with patients and their families to uphold their voices and preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay updated with advancements in paediatric nursing practice, engaging in continuous professional development.
  • Perform clinical assessments and risk evaluations, accurately recording findings and escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and families, providing information and directing them to support services.
  • Safeguard the welfare of all patients, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation in line with regulatory standards.
  • Proactively manage risks and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Effectively communicate complex information to patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in medication safety principles and engage in discussions regarding medications with relevant stakeholders.
  • Uphold professional standards and act as a positive role model.
  • Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Participate in quality auditing processes and contribute to service development.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • NMC Registered Paediatric Nurse with a Paediatric/Children’s Nursing Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Safeguarding Level 3 Qualification.

Desirable:

  • Clinical Skills qualifications such as BFI, cannulation & venepuncture.
  • Experience as a student supervisor and assessor.
  • APLS certification.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and support others.
  • Effective decision-making and initiative-taking skills.
  • Familiarity with hospital environments and electronic patient record systems.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Post-registration experience.
  • Experience in medical transfers via flight and/or road.
