Our client is looking for an experienced Oncology Matron to join a team in Birmingham. As an Oncology Matron, you'll oversee multiple wards and teams to ensure exceptional, safe, and compassionate patient care round the clock. You'll provide nursing leadership, acting as a point of expertise on professional nursing and specialty issues. As a clinical role model, you'll inspire and empower nurses to excel in their roles, while efficiently managing financial resources and nursing staff deployment. Your role involves contributing to hospital initiatives, particularly in enhancing patient care delivery and quality.

The salary for this role is £60,000 per annum.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Oncology Matron:

  • Providing clinical leadership and expertise in the delivery of oncology nursing care. This involves overseeing and coordinating the nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Managing and supervising nursing staff within the oncology department, including recruitment, training, performance management, and rostering.
  • Ensuring that patients receive appropriate and effective care throughout their cancer treatment journey. This includes assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and monitoring their progress.
  • Implementing and monitoring quality improvement initiatives to enhance the standard of care provided to oncology patients. This may involve developing and reviewing policies and procedures, conducting audits, and implementing best practices.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, including oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and palliative care teams, to coordinate multidisciplinary care for patients.
  • Providing education and training to nursing staff, patients, and their families on various aspects of cancer care, including treatment options, symptom management, and supportive care services.
  • Participating in research projects and clinical trials to advance knowledge and improve treatment outcomes in oncology nursing.
  • Managing resources within the oncology department, including budgeting, equipment procurement, and ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet patient needs.
  • Advocating for the needs and rights of oncology patients, ensuring that they receive appropriate support and access to services.

Relevant Qualifications and Experience of the Oncology Matron:

  • Registered Nurse with proven clinical expertise in Oncology.
  • Certified in Chemotherapy / Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) competency.
  • Substantial post-registration experience.
  • Track record of effective leadership and practice delivery.
  • Dedicated to personal professional development.
  • Proficient in devising efficient workflows and enhancing service provision.
  • Committed to enhancing patient care outcomes.
  • Exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with pertinent hospital protocols, including Health and Safety standards.
  • Completion of Health and Safety training, including proficiency in moving and handling techniques.
