Job Summary:

Sanctuary Personnel are seeking a dedicated Critical Care Nurse to join our client's team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to high dependency and critically ill patients during allocated shifts. Collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will offer support and guidance to patients, families, and colleagues. Your duties will include delivering individualised patient care, grounded in best practice principles, particularly focusing on acute physiological needs such as ventilation, sepsis, renal replacement therapy, and acute cardiac interventions. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to less experienced nursing staff and actively contribute to the enhancement of our High Dependency and Critical Care initiatives.

Relationships:

  • Reporting to the Critical Care Unit Manager, you will work under the guidance of the Modern Matron for Emergency Care and be accountable to the Assistant Director of Adult Acute Service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Practice and Philosophy of Nursing:

  • Embrace and uphold the principles outlined in the ward philosophy.
  • Align work efforts with the ward's aims and objectives.
  • Implement the theory and principles of the agreed nursing model.
  • Provide comprehensive care to assigned patients within your expertise.
  • Supervise the practice of newly qualified and unqualified staff.
  • Ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Achieve positive outcomes by adhering to agreed nursing care standards.
  • Adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Follow the locally agreed framework for professional practice.
  • Perform nursing procedures according to the Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Guide junior staff nurses and learners as a named assessor.
  • Facilitate the development of nursing staff through competency programs.
  • Continuously develop your own skills to promote evidence-based practice.
  • Supervise patients' care and provide professional advice when necessary.
  • Recognise limitations and seek guidance from experienced nurses.
  • Engage in clinical supervision sessions.

Role Development:

  • Set professional development targets through formal appraisal processes.
  • Provide support to the Team Leader and understand their role.
  • Coordinate and provide leadership in the absence of the Team Leader.
  • Offer professional support to key members of the multidisciplinary team.

Health and Safety:

  • Prioritise patient, staff, and personal safety in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Report accidents and incidents promptly and complete necessary documentation.
  • Follow safe moving and handling procedures and use equipment effectively.
  • Understand CPR and Do Not Resuscitate policies and be proficient in basic life support techniques.
  • Adhere to fire safety regulations and procedures.
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain equipment safety.
  • Familiarise yourself with the Major Incident Procedure and your role within it.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions for Fire Safety, Basic Life Support, and Safe Moving and Handling.

Key Criteria:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved mentor course at level 2 or equivalent.
  • Competence in intravenous drug administration.
  • Portfolio demonstrating fulfillment of KSF criteria.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in coordinating ward activities and delegating tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, particularly within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload efficiently.
  • Understanding and application of evidence-based care.
  • Commitment to self and professional development.
