Job Summary

Sanctuary Personnel are seeking a dynamic Lead Occupational Therapist to join our client's therapy team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Occupational Therapy team to ensure the effective delivery of our Occupational Therapy programme and individual patient and family support.

Key Accountabilities

Clinical:

  • Ensure thorough understanding and implementation of the Occupational Therapy Pathway
  • Conduct and supervise a range of occupational therapy assessments, interventions, and group work sessions.
  • Collaborate with patients to identify occupational therapy goals as part of their care plan.
  • Plan and execute individual and group interventions in collaboration with patients, utilising graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate treatment progress to ensure effectiveness.
  • Maintain up-to-date electronic records and activity data in accordance with professional and policies.
  • Adhere to professional codes of ethics and conduct, as well as national procedures.
  • Manage workload effectively, including maintaining a clinical caseload when necessary.
  • Establish effective communication networks with patients, carers, team members, and other relevant parties.
  • Oversee the participation of Occupational Therapy team members in multi-disciplinary decision-making processes regarding patient care.
  • Adapt professionally to variable job demands and environments, showing respect for patient individuality and diversity.

  • Provide input into the review of documents as requested by the Quality Assurance lead.

Managerial:

  • Delegate tasks appropriately within the Occupational Therapy team and provide support and training as needed.
  • Provide clinical supervision to junior colleagues and conduct annual appraisals.
  • Exercise responsible use of resources and oversee the OT budget.
  • Participate in planning, evaluation, and audit activities to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Develop an annual occupational therapy development plan for submission to the leadership team.
  • Contribute to Clinical Governance arrangements and quality agenda.
  • Review and authorise annual leave requests and expense submissions from the OT team.
  • Conduct return-to-work interviews and probationary assessments.
  • Participate in the recruitment process, including shortlisting and interviewing candidates.
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, and Department team meetings.

Requirements:

  • Dip COT/BSc OT/MSc OT.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • RCOT Registration.
  • Experience working as a Senior Occupational Therapist in mental health and/or CAMHS.
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Experience facilitating and reviewing group work.
  • Experience as a student educator.
  • Knowledge of current best practice in occupational therapy in eating disorders.
  • Experience of using standardised assessment tools.
  • Experience communicating effectively with a range of people and conveying complex and difficult information.
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance and the performance of the OT team.
  • Ability to keep accurate, up to date clinical records and statistics.
  • Ability to critically evaluate research and to apply findings to practice.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding legislation and implications for practice.
  • Understanding of national guidelines and legislation related to health and social care.
  • Experience chairing meetings and disseminating information.
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues.
  • Money handling and budget recording skills.
