Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking an experienced Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to take on a new locum opportunity based in Basingstoke, within the Inpatient Team.

Location: Basingstoke

Contract Type: This trust has multiple shifts available, catering for flexible working and giving you the opportunity to workdays, nights or weekends giving you the work life balance that you require.

However, there also block-booking available on a contractual basis.

Pay Rate: £31- £42 per hour (assignment rate)

  • Days/Nights - £31per hour
  • Saturdays - £34 per hour
  • Sundays - £42 per hour

Main Duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental health status, including psychiatric history, current symptoms, and risk factors.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualised care plans tailored to patients' needs.
  • Administer and monitor medications, observing for therapeutic effects and potential side effects, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Provide supportive counselling and psychoeducation to patients and their families, empowering them to understand and manage their mental health conditions effectively.
  • Monitor and intervene in crisis situations, utilising de-escalation techniques and coordinating with the crisis intervention team as needed.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups and activities to promote socialisation, coping skills development, and symptom management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and progress in electronic medical records.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, contributing insights and recommendations for optimising patient care and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with community resources to facilitate smooth transitions for patients upon discharge, ensuring continuity of care and support.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards of nursing practice, maintaining confidentiality, and always respecting patients’ rights and dignity.

Requirements of the Registered Mental Health Nurse:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing (BSN or MSN) preferred.
  • Certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing (PMHN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in psychiatric or mental health nursing, preferably in an inpatient setting in the UK.
  • Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in mental health treatment and familiarity with psychiatric medications.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and education in the field of mental health nursing.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Dedication to promoting a therapeutic and supportive environment for patients and their families.
