Duties of the Mental Health Nurse:

  • Work as an autonomous Perinatal Community Nurse with a defined caseload
  • Ensuring the on-going assessment of adults within the service and providing a range of needs-led interventions and care
  • Work in consultation with other professionals making known concerns regarding safeguarding children and safeguarding adults to the appropriate and responsible services
  • Provide written information for all perinatal referrals received into the team to the referrers
  • Aid the identification and treatment for the mental health needs of pregnant women and those with infants up to one year old

Requirements of the Mental Health Nurse:

  • Degree or equivalent in Mental Health Nursing
  • Experience working as a Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • NMC Registration
  • Experience working in an NHS setting
  • Experience of general adult inpatient, Mother and Baby inpatient unit, community mental health services or CAMHS
  • Prior experience of working with women who suffer from moderate to severe mental illness in the perinatal period is essential
