Main Duties:

 

  • The post holder will provide high quality consultation, specialist assessment and intervention of speech, language, communication and swallowing needs, as part of a Multidisciplinary Team.
  • They will develop effective clinical services, to meet the complex needs of people with a learning disability, autism or both who may at times communicate behaviour that challenges, particularly behaviour that presents risk to self or others. 
  • The post-holder will be responsible for the provision of full and comprehensive, highly specialist SLT services to culturally diverse in-patients with a learning disability, autism and co-occurring conditions. Service users will have complex needs, including mental health problems and may display distressed behaviours.
  • Provision of highly specialist SLT assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with mental health problems, working collaboratively with the patient and their clinical team towards shared treatment goals
  • Provision of highly specialist communication, eating and drinking assessment and advice management and person centred care. To include educating, training and sharing skills with the MDT as required.
  • Provision of Speech and Language Therapy advice and consultation to others involved in patient care.
  • As an autonomous practitioner, he/she will be responsible for their own work and interventions and for the interpretation of agreed guidelines and policies.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist/SLT:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration
  • Recent UK/NHS post qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist
