Main Duties:

  • To provide a Speech & Language Therapy Service to adults with voice, swallowing and communication disorders.
  • To use specialist knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements/decision making for case management.
  • To make a differential diagnosis on client’s communication/swallowing on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate.
  • To develop clear care plans based on best practice.
  • To attend relevant training and development in order to maintain and develop specialist skills and knowledge and maintain up to date HCPC and RCSLT registration.
  • To keep up to date with new techniques and developments for the promotion and maintenance of good practice in speech and language therapy.
  • To assess, develop and implement Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Treatment to a defined specialised caseload of adult patients with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • To participate fully and effectively in client management strategies that depend on liaison and/or interdisciplinary working with other professionals.
  • To provide advice/training to other professionals, patients, carers and families regarding the management and care of patients with communication disorders and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.
  • To ensure that patients are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans wherever possible.
  • To maintain up to date, concise and accurate case notes in line with RCSLT professional standards and local trust policies.
  • To be involved in induction of new staff.
  • To participate in specialist training in area of clinical expertise.
  • To participate in departmental research and clinical governance/audit projects.
  • To collect and provide research data as required.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist/SLT:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration
  • Recent UK/NHS post qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist
