Job Purpose

  • Lead, manage, and enhance the Dispensary Service and its team to ensure the safe and efficient distribution of medicines to patients and staff within the HCS.
  • The incumbent reports to the Pharmacy Services Manager and is responsible for executing and delivering the pharmacy strategy for Dispensary Services.

Statutory Responsibilities

The successful candidate must adhere to all relevant States Laws, including the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989, and associated legislation, Standing Orders, Financial Directions, and other pertinent Codes of Practice. This entails actively managing procurement, approval, financial, and administrative procedures to achieve key project deliverables and cost management.

This role is politically restricted, prohibiting engagement in political activities involving election candidacy or public support for political figures.

Job Specific Outcomes

  • Lead and manage the Dispensary, overseeing the workload of pharmacists and technical staff to deliver an efficient, customer-focused, and secure dispensing service.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) and regulatory requirements by the entire pharmacy team, including agency personnel.
  • Foster a collaborative and excellence-driven work environment, minimising risks and promoting teamwork.
  • Coordinate the workload of technician and support staff across the pharmacy department, considering its impact on other services.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines for the Dispensary Service, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Manage dispensary risks in accordance with professional standards and clinical governance, fostering a proactive risk-reporting culture.
  • Implement strategic directives for Dispensary Services, supporting overall Pharmacy Service objectives.
  • Stay abreast of clinical practice advancements, identifying areas for service development and ensuring patient-centric care.
  • Collect and analyse data to monitor and evaluate Dispensary Services' impact and performance, contributing to service improvement.
  • Performance manage direct reports, providing training and support to ensure service quality.
  • Support medicines optimisation initiatives by collaborating with clinical pharmacy management.
  • Oversee the maintenance of legal records pertaining to medicines storage and supply, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Requirements:

  • GPHC Registration
  • Previous experience within a UK/NHS based Pharmacy setting.
  • Senior/Managerial Pharmacy experience
  • NVQ or equivalent – Pharmacy qualification
