Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join a reputable healthcare institution. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in the manufacture, dispensing, and provision of pharmaceutical advice. Working closely with our dedicated team of healthcare professionals, you will ensure efficient and safe delivery of pharmaceutical services within our client's institution.

Responsibilities:

1. Dispensary Based Technician:

  • Interpret and dispense prescriptions accurately under Pharmacist supervision.
  • Input patient details and generate labels using the dispensary computer system.
  • Maintain accurate records of dispensed items and stock levels.
  • Dispense individual patient requirements from ward order sheets and prescriptions.
  • Handle receptionist duties and deal with enquiries.
  • Collect payments from out-patients and ensure exemption details are complete.
  • Dispense medicines to outpatients and provide counselling on medication use.
  • Follow up on outstanding prescriptions and ensure completion of treatment.
  • Demonstrate roles to pre-registration pharmacists and other trainees.
  • Participate in staff development and training activities.

2. Ward Technician:

  • Assess suitability of patients' own drugs for hospital use.
  • Check patients' own drugs against prescriptions and highlight any discrepancies.
  • Discuss medication and counsel patients on its use.
  • Transcribe prescriptions to ward sheets and supply items accordingly.
  • Monitor antibiotic therapy and ensure adherence to policy.
  • Ensure patients have a supply of discharge medication.
  • Sign out controlled drugs not required by the ward and handle disposal of patients' own medication.
  • Conduct ward stock reviews as scheduled.

3. Aseptic Services Section:

  • Interpret prescriptions and formulate worksheets for aseptic preparation.
  • Prepare cytotoxic drugs, parenteral nutrition, and CIVA products accurately.
  • Maintain technical competence in aseptic techniques.
  • Cover organisational duties in the absence of senior staff.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • NVQ/BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
  • Registered pharmacy technician.
  • Previous experience in hospital or retail pharmacy settings.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work within legal and safe working conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate values aligned with patient-centred care.

Desirable:

  • Awareness of the dignity in care agenda.
  • Initiative and ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Current driving licence.

Working Conditions:

  • Regular requirement for standing and stooping.
  • Exposure to pharmaceuticals and patient-related pressures.
  • Use of VDU equipment for a significant portion of the working day.
  • Variable working hours.

Freedom to Act:

  • Works independently within standard operating procedures under Pharmacist supervision.
