At the Neurological Care Centre, we offer a comprehensive dual service encompassing a therapy-led level 2 specialist neuro-rehabilitation service and dedicated specialist neurological care for residents with diverse neurological conditions. We cultivate a holistic environment complemented by a diverse staff skill set, enabling us to enhance clients' health and wellbeing, foster independence, and address their emotional and social needs.

In November 2023, we underwent a transition.This transition presents significant avenues for personal and professional growth, with ample opportunities for service development and research initiatives. We foster research opportunities within our service, provide local supervision and development within our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), and maintain collaborative relationships with other Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) nationwide to broaden peer support and learning prospects.

We receive and assess referrals from professionals in inpatient and community settings across Lancashire and South Cumbria. Our interdisciplinary team includes registered nurses, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Neuro Psychology, Assistant Practitioners, Rehabilitation Assistants, and we benefit from weekly input from our Neuro Rehabilitation Consultant. Moreover, our service uniquely incorporates Neuro Music Therapy, alongside an onsite activities coordinator and volunteer team to facilitate engagement and interaction.

Our new facility provides an exceptional working environment conducive to well-established group activities, currently featuring breakfast group, upper limb group, and rehab champions group. We are poised to integrate hydrotherapy and explore emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) techniques into our practice.

About the Role:

The role of Senior Occupational Therapist is situated within our level 2 neuro-rehabilitation unit, operating within our interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include conducting holistic assessments and treatments for complex neurological patients, setting and reviewing SMART goals within formal and informal sessions, and supporting clients, families, and staff in achieving these objectives. Effective communication of realistic outcome expectations to facilitate timely discharge planning is essential. The role also involves engaging in appropriate community activities, conducting access and home visits across Lancashire and South Cumbria to facilitate assessments and graded discharges.

  • Maintain comprehensive records in accordance with professional standards.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and specialised skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Demonstrate high-level communication skills to manage challenging conversations.
  • Identify and demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with team leaders, therapy and nursing teams, and the wider MDT.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in patient assessment and manual treatment.
  • Utilise clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice to formulate specialised rehabilitation management care plans.
  • Assess and provide equipment to enhance daily living skills for service users.
  • Continuously monitor, review, and reassess clients' rehab plans and objectives against outcome measures.
  • Perform clinical risk assessments and develop relevant risk management plans.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in the field by exploring emerging technologies and techniques.

About You:

  • Hold a degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Provide evidence of relevant postgraduate courses and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Possess substantial experience working in a rehabilitation setting.
  • Demonstrate experience working within a neurological setting or with neurological patients.
  • Exhibit expertise in evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
  • Have experience working at band 6 level or above.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively prioritise tasks.
  • Confidently assess and manage risk in relation to therapist/therapy service performance.
