Duties:

  • Support the team in their day-to-day work and development, promoting the concept of interdisciplinary team working
  • Provide information, training and support, to promote effective patient care planning and triage to sign post clients to the appropriate service
  • Act as an information and educational resource to all members of the team
  • Contribute to the monitoring and auditing of the standards of care in the EMU
  • Facilitate the multidisciplinary team meeting and ensure key issues are shared across the EMU team
  • Responsibility for the effective and efficient use of resources
  • Play an active role in the promotion of health and safety within the Unit
  • Act as shift co-ordinator when necessary
  • Work with the Clinical Lead and peer group develop evidence based clinical practice that is relevant to the EMU
  • Manage and support the learning experience of nursing students in partnership with their mentor
  • Develop educational opportunities to promote the effectiveness of individual patient care and discharge planning
  • Actively participate in an annual performance review and development of a personal development plan and that of the unit
  • Promote a cohesive multi-disciplinary team
  • Work towards the achievement of the EMU goals and objectives
  • Influence the development and implementation of policies, protocols and guidelines
  • Improve the quality of care received and the experience of patients and their carers through implementation of initiatives which reflect the promotion of independence and the National Service Framework for Older Peoples

Requirements for the Registered Nurse/Paramedic role:

  • Recognise that promoting the welfare and safeguarding children, young people and adults is everyone’s business and access training and supervision as appropriate to the role
  • Be aware of and work in line with all policies and procedures

  • NSF for Older People knowledge
  • Ambulatory Care knowledge
  • NMC Registered Nurse or Paramedic registration
  • Evidence of ongoing development and education

  • Diploma or degree
  • Experience of working with older people
  • Experience of discharge planning
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Community experience
  • Participated in clinical supervision
  • Specialist skills in venepuncture, cannulation and giving of IV medication
  • Car Driver
  • Able to manage the physical demands of the post
  • Ability to travel between sites if required
