Job Title: Band 6 Health Visitor

Job Summary:

  • Manage designated caseload for day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure high-quality service delivery to all clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and prioritise caseload.
  • Assess, plan, and deliver Health Visiting Services.
  • Refer children to appropriate specialists and agencies.
  • Provide expert advice to various agencies.
  • Empower families to make informed health choices.
  • Collaborate with statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Work towards family-centered Public Health goals.
  • Remain vigilant on child protection issues and policies.

The Role:

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with diverse clients.
  • Liaise with various agencies.
  • Handle sensitive issues with negotiation skills.
  • Engage families in care planning and health activities.
  • Participate in MASH meetings and case conferences.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide reports.

Clinical:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care.
  • Conduct screenings and health promotion activities.
  • Address health and social problems.
  • Manage minor medical conditions and provide advice.
  • Support vulnerable children and families.
  • Recognise signs of child abuse and refer as needed.
  • Administer medication and immunisations.
  • Provide support for postnatal depression.

Management:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical protocols.
  • Propose changes based on research evidence.
  • Participate in Clinical Supervision.
  • Contribute to service planning.
  • Provide cover and undertake appraisals.
  • Supervise and support staff.
  • Participate in recruitment and induction.
  • Assess training needs and provide education.
  • Maintain resources and equipment.
  • Report incidents and complaints.
  • Deputise for the Team Leader as required.

Leadership:

  • Forecast future needs and contribute to the Public Health agenda.
  • Stay updated with research evidence.
  • Provide support and advice to colleagues.
  • Foster a culture of excellence and change.

Research:

  • Organise and participate in local research and audit.
  • Use research findings to inform practice.

Training:

  • Arrange induction and mentorship for new staff.
  • Facilitate courses and study days.
  • Undertake statutory training.
  • Provide health education to parents and carers.

Education and Experience:

  • RN and Health Visiting Qualification, Diploma or Degree, with continuing professional development.

Key Criteria:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
  • Willingness to support change and development.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Nurse Prescribing Qualification desirable.
  • Commitment to service improvement and equal opportunities.
  • Car driver with a clean license.
