Purpose of the Job:

The role involves spearheading the development and advancement of psychological services within a correctional facility, fostering collaboration across the prison and with external stakeholders. You will be instrumental in realising the vision, ensuring efficient operation of psychological services, reducing re-offending pathways, and promoting a rehabilitative culture in alignment with the values of the prison.

Main Assignments:

  • Directly manage Forensic Psychologists and Forensic Psychologists-in-Training, while engaging directly with prisoners.
  • Provide support to staff dealing with prisoners with complex needs, including personality disorders and significant offending histories.
  • Prepare Parole Reports and conduct various assessments including HCR, PCL-R, IPDE, and SARA.
  • Lead forensic assessments, formulations, and treatment planning for prisoners.
  • Collaborate closely with the Psychology and Interventions team, prisoners, and other prison departments.
  • Facilitate or participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and contribute to new Offending Behaviour Programmes (OBP), ensuring psychological oversight and input.
  • Conduct training sessions on topics such as managing behaviors and personality disorders for relevant teams.

Context:

The job involves planning, supervising, and coordinating functional performance with guidance from senior management. Building and maintaining relationships within the prison and with external partners are crucial aspects, alongside collaborative work within the team and under the guidance of the Head of Psychology.

Accountabilities:

  • Effective leadership and management of a diverse team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Contribution to reducing reoffending risks and maintaining safety within the prison.
  • Delivery of functional standards and contractual targets.
  • Monitoring intervention delivery to optimise outcomes for residents and meet contractual obligations.

Dimensions:

  • Conduct forensic risk assessments contributing to prisoner safety.
  • Act as a professional witness in various formal meetings.
  • Lead the development and delivery of new offending behavior programs.
  • Provide training on managing difficult behaviors and related issues.

Job Profile:

  • HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist with Chartered status in the BPS, including Division of Forensic Psychology membership.
  • Post-qualification management experience with a solid understanding of psychological theory in managing individuals with complex backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in administering and interpreting psychological assessments, as well as supervisory skills.
