Sanctuary Personnel, a leading recruitment company to the private and public sector has a locum vacancy for a Band 7 Registered Mental Health Nurse to work  37.5 hours per week as a Perinatal Clinical Lead based in Doncaster, within the Perinatal Mental Health Service.

The pay rate for this Registered Mental Health Nurse job is £29.68 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an initial 6-month contract.

Duties:

  • Function as an autonomous practitioner working independently of and in conjunction with other members of the perinatal mental health service
  • Provide expert advice and specialist nursing knowledge to women who meet the criteria for inclusion into the perinatal mental health service based on a skilled and comprehensive assessment
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, manage a complex caseload of Service Users, provide practical advice and support including family work, psychological interventions and overseeing any safeguarding issues - adult and child protection
  • Monitor medication management and concordance and will administer medications and monitor their effects
  • A particular focus on the monitoring of physical health and ensuring that required physical health checks have been undertaken
  • Robustly work to develop and deliver safe and effective services, in accordance with key national targets, clinical standards, service priorities and performance indicators set by regional and local commissioners and Trust policies
  • Provide specialist mental health advice, direction and guidance
  • Work in partnership with commissioners and other partner agencies to provide perinatal services that achieve the best possible outcomes for service users
  • Develop the service in line with Local and National directives ensuring service delivery follows agreed pathways and evidence-based practice
  • Lead the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols relevant to the perinatal mental health service in partnership with midwifery colleagues
  • Provide expert advice and support to colleagues and other agencies involved with the provision of care for those experiencing the challenges of perinatal mental health problems contributing directly to the formulation and treatment plan
  • Provide specialist care for individuals presenting with or at high risk of developing mental health problems during or following pregnancy, recognising the needs of the individual, providing support, information, education and counselling to them and their families
  • Be responsible for implementing a range of specialist evidence-based interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within and across teams
  • Maintain accurate records and establish a data collection system to assist in the evaluation and development of the service
  • Coordinate and deliver education and training to build confidence, knowledge and skills of all midwives, enabling them to better support women's mental health in pregnancy and postnatally

Requirements of the Registered Mental Health Nurse:

  • Qualification to Degree level or equivalent, supplemented by post-graduate courses/ training and experience to Masters level equivalency
  • NMC registration and a valid live pin
  • An Independent Nurse Prescriber, or willingness to work towards the same
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in the care of patients with perinatal illness, with Significant experience within the Primary/Community setting at Band 6 or above
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills, history taking skills and decision-making skills
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Demonstrate good organisational ability, leadership skills and communication skills
