Job Purpose:

The RMN will be a key member of the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities division, functioning within a multidisciplinary mental health team. The primary focus is to provide an alternative to inpatient admission by delivering intensive treatment within the community. Operating on a 24/7 rota, inclusive of Bank Holidays, weekends, and nights, the RMN ensures timely support for individuals in crisis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to professional and regulatory body codes, maintaining clinical practice rooted in evidence-based theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify mental and physical health symptoms, facilitating timely and appropriate interventions.
  • Serve as a gatekeeper for hospital admissions, including participation in Mental Health Act Assessments.
  • Proactively accept referrals and conduct further assessments for individuals on the caseload, making autonomous clinical decisions, particularly with high-risk populations.
  • Take charge of planning and delivering acute and intensive care to individuals requiring immediate response.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, family members, and other agencies to communicate progress, potential risks, and contingency plans.
  • Provide In-Reach support to Adult inpatient wards, aiding Bed Management and Early Discharge.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and relationship skills with service users, carers, and fellow professionals.
  • Contribute to multi-professional working, exhibiting flexibility and a willingness to engage with all aspects of the team's activities.
  • Offer advice on medication issues, administer or supervise medication as needed, and provide information on prescribing to other team members.
  • Act as the shift coordinator on a regular rota basis and collaborate with service users and other agencies to plan for their post-service needs.
  • Actively participate in service and professional development initiatives, adhering to Equalities Framework competencies and ensuring sensitive, confidential communication at all times.
  • Utilise physical skills such as depot injections and phlebotomy, following appropriate training, and possess a valid Full Driving Licence with regular access to a car.

Prescribing:

If appropriately registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council and having completed the approved training program (V300), the post holder may practice as an independent non-medical prescriber within designated areas of practice, ensuring adherence to local and national policies and protocols.

Supervisory and Developmental Duties:

Contribute to the educational development of the team, review competencies, and support clinical practice. Engage in supervision and appraisal of junior staff, share knowledge and skills with colleagues, and maintain professional development through clinical supervision and personal development planning.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • RNMH or Allied health professional (Mental Health) qualification.
  • Experience in community-based mental health care, including complex needs assessment and coordination.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and professional requirements.
  • Proficient in communication, decision-making, and teamwork.
  • Ability to work under pressure, maintain positive attitudes, and adapt to changing demands.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use electronic patient records effectively.
  • Clean driving license and ability to work over a range of shifts covering a 24-hour period, seven days a week
