Band 5 Community Nurses are required to have the following competencies:

  • Reading blood sugar monitors
  • Giving insulin
  • Pressure Ulcer care
  • Simple wound care
  • Complex wound care
  • Diabetes Management
  • Handle peg feeding
  • Simple medication management
  • Basic initial assessments
  • End of Life Care
  • Diabetes care/Insulin administration
  • Trauma wounds- non complex
  • Surgical wounds- non complex
  • Pressure Ulcer care
  • Initial assessments.
  • Recent Anaphylaxis Training
  • Male and female catheterisation- care of and insertion

Requirements of the Community/District Nurse:

  • RGN qualified/NMC registered with valid live pin
  • Recent UK nursing experience
  • Must have Community/District nursing experience
