The salary for this permanent Lead Theatre Practitioner/Surgical First Assistant job is £54.600 per annum.

Hours: 37.5 Monday to Saturday, with on-call participation

Shift times: Early: 07:00-15:00 & Late: 13:00-21:00 x5 per week (longdays are unavailable)

Main Duties:

  • Provide expert clinical assistance during orthopaedic and spinal surgical procedures to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.
  • Act as the Surgical First Assistant (SFA), showcasing advanced surgical skills and proficiency in complex orthopaedic-spinal techniques.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in assisting across various surgical specialties beyond orthopaedics and spinal surgery, including gynecology, general surgery, and urology.
  • Lead and coordinate the theatre team during surgeries, promoting effective communication and collaboration among team members.
  • Utilise strong organisational skills to prioritize workload and efficiently manage resources for the smooth running of surgical services.
  • Accurately document all relevant information and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to uphold the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Requirements of the Lead Theatre Practitioner/Surgical First Assistant:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with current registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of UK-based experience at a senior level in a perioperative setting, showcasing excellence in clinical practice and leadership.
  • Certification as a Surgical First Assistant (SFA) required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in surgical techniques, instrument handling, and tissue manipulation relevant to orthopaedic-spinal surgery.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, capable of thriving in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
