Sanctuary Personnel is seeking an Assistant Team Manager to join the People Directorate's Education Services team. This position is within the SEN Inclusion & Disabled Children Team. 

Job Purpose:

As an Assistant Team Manager, you will provide operational support to the Children with Disabilities Team under the guidance of the Team Manager. Your responsibilities include supervising staff primarily from an Occupational Therapy background, ensuring compliance with Health Professions standards, and delivering effective service in alignment with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards. Additionally, you will oversee equipment expenditure, conduct occupational therapy assessments, and provide support to parents and caregivers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage allocated caseloads, conducting assessments and reviews for children with complex needs.
  • Prepare and submit reports, case notes, risk assessments, and equipment funding requests in a timely manner.
  • Lead meetings as necessary for allocated cases.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and management oversight to staff, adhering to organisational policies.
  • Allocate work to staff according to their expertise and experience.
  • Collaborate with the Team Manager to establish service priorities and address management issues.
  • Offer guidance and support to team members dealing with complex cases.
  • Participate in recruitment, training, and development activities as directed.
  • Monitor service quality and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to equipment and minor adaptations guidelines.
  • Identify and escalate significant incidents or trends to management promptly.
  • Contribute to the development of strategy, procedures, and policies within the field of expertise.
  • Foster internal and external working relationships with partner organisations and agencies.
  • Conduct professional and clinical supervision sessions and performance appraisals.
  • Identify staff development needs and facilitate training activities.
  • Support the induction of new staff members.
  • Promote equality and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Fulfill any other duties required for efficient service delivery.

Person Specification:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience supervising staff and conducting assessments for clients with complex disability needs.
  • Familiarity with community occupational therapy work and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and guidance.
  • Proficiency in communication, delegation, IT, organisation, and planning.
  • Ability to lead, support, and motivate staff while maintaining a child-centered approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, resilience, and conflict management abilities.
  • Compliance with values and work-related requirements, including public-facing communication skills and flexibility in working hours and locations.
  • Possession of a current driving license and willingness to undertake occasional long-distance travel.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
