Main Duties:

  • To work alongside the Operations Manager and the wider management and medical team to deliver an effective, safe and high-quality service.
  • To act as a deputy manager when required, providing support and advice to recovery workers and be the first point of contact in dealing with any incidents or complaints from service users.
  • To provide line management and supervision to a team of dual diagnosis workers
  • To adhere to local safeguarding protocols to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. including the completion of safeguarding assessment tools, referrals to social services and producing reports
  • To work effectively with partner agencies and other professional to ensure a joined up approach to treatment and care planning
  • To provide specialist support, advice and guidance to service managers, lead clinicians, nurses and care staff within Crisis & Home Treatment teams, Community Locality teams, forensic services and hospital in-patient wards
  • To introduce effective screening and assessment tools and training to the provider staff on evidence based interventions
  • To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, and carry out comprehensive specialist assessments and provide time limited interventions for dual diagnosis patients that includes health promotion and harm minimisation, relapse prevention, detoxification and residential and community based substance use treatment.
  • To assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to service users and/or others.
  • To maintain multi-disciplinary links with community services offering consultation and advice
  • To provide written reports as requested by other organisations/services, e.g. housing, probation and social services.
  • To have professional responsibility for promoting equality, diversity and rights.
  • Understand the rationale and principles of substitute medication and prescribing.
  • To lead in developing joint working programmes with local drug and alcohol services related to detoxification and titration scripts.
  • To participate in joint working groups reviewing and updating prescribing protocols for substance misuse treatment in mental health settings.
  • Demonstrates advanced theoretical and clinical skills in both substance misuse and mental health fields, and the ability to inter-relate complex presentations within dual diagnosis.

Requirements for the role of Substance Misuse Worker:

  • Recent experience in Substance Misuse, Substance Abuse, Addiction, Drug and Alcohol, Needle Exchange, or Recovery.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications.
