Main duties:

  • Be part of a core team who will lead the development and delivery of a high quality Acute Service for adults admitted to the stroke service.
  • Inform the model of delivery that will achieve the most cohesive and effective pathway for service users.
  • Undertake a leadership role in the planning, co-ordinating, development and evaluation of clinical services using advanced clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Assess, plan and implement care for patients in the Neuro/ASU wards. Including participating in the weekend SLT rota.
  • Contribute to the facilitation of their safe discharge, liaising with existing acute and community services and staff as appropriate.
  • Manage a complex caseload, using evidence based and person-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Provide clinical leadership for Speech & Language Therapy staff and students working with this client group, through supervision and training.
  • Work alongside the Band 7 Specialist SLT in Neuro, facilitating the delivery of SLT to both services.
  • Take a major role in the development of specialist speech and language therapy interventions and standards of practice in the advanced assessment and treatment of service users who have complex presentations

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist/SLT:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration
  • Recent UK/NHS post qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist
