Sanctuary Personnel is seeking to appoint a qualified, motivated, and experienced Specialty Doctor to join a dedicated consultant-led team at a bustling multidisciplinary Specialist Palliative Care unit.

About Our Client:

The client operates within the grounds of a Cromwellian mansion house on the outskirts of Peterborough. The unit serves populations across various regions. Patients are admitted at different stages of illness for complex symptom control or end-of-life care. The multidisciplinary team, under the leadership of two palliative medicine consultants, focuses on addressing patients' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

Duties:

  • The position is based in Peterborough and currently involves 6.32 PAs per week.
  • In addition to ward duties, the successful candidate will be expected to provide telephone advice to Specialist Community and Hospital Palliative Care teams as well as local GPs. Full participation in MDT working, contribution to teaching, and governance issues is expected. Study leave with a supporting budget is available.
  • Managerially, the Specialty Doctor will be responsible to the medical consultants.
  • The role involves medical assessment, diagnosis, and management of new admissions, daily management of inpatients, ensuring good practice and holistic care, completion of necessary paperwork, provision of specialist advice, participation in clinical audit and governance, and mandatory training sessions.
  • The post also includes annual appraisal and job planning requirements.

Requirements:

  • Full and up-to-date General Medical Council (GMC) registration.
  • MBBS degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of full-time postgraduate training, or equivalent gained through part-time or flexible basis, with at least 2 years in a relevant specialty.
  • At least 6 months of post-registration experience in Palliative Medicine.
  • Postgraduate qualification such as MRCP/MRCGP or equivalent.
  • Sound clinical experience including knowledge of medical and surgical conditions, as well as palliative medicine issues like symptom control, assessment of acutely unwell patients, and communication skills for end-of-life care.
  • Ability to work effectively in various clinical settings such as inpatient hospice and community teams.
  • Experience in clinical decision-making, risk management, and knowing when to seek help.
  • Proficiency in practical skills like venepuncture and cannulation.
  • Effective communication skills, empathy, and ability to work in partnership with patients.
  • Advanced communication skills training.
  • Commitment to clinical governance including awareness of good decision-making, participation in audits, and interest in teaching.
  • Management and administrative experience, including the ability to contribute to service efficiency and utilize information technology.
  • Personal skills such as team working, coping with pressure, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, including engagement in appraisal.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and live within a maximum 60-minute drive of the designated location for on-call duties.

  • Fitness to practice safely.
  • Adequate language skills in English for effective communication, demonstrated through appropriate qualifications or evidence.
  • Meets professional health requirements and standards.
