Pay Rate: £42.50 per hour (assignment rate)

Contract: Locum, 3-Months

Hours: Full-time. The post holder will have an occasional requirement to work outside ‘normal’ office hours / as required by their line manager up to 36 hours per week.

Duties:

  • Responsible for chairing Statutory Reviews for Looked After Children, Child Protection Conferences and other statutory child protection meetings
  • Undertake work within the Safeguarding and Service Standards Unit to raise standards within Children’s Services and support the development of the service
  • Chair and minute Statutory Reviews for Looked After Children within agreed timescales 
  • Ensure that the review decisions are made to maintain timely progression of plans for Looked After Children and monitor implementation of such plans
  • Chair Child Protection conferences and decide upon the need for a child to be subject to child protection plan
  • Identify any concerns in the response of the multi-agency Core Group and monitor the implementation of such plans
  • Identify any concerns in the response of the multi-agency Core Group to progress the plan and inform the relevant Service Manager
  • Chair complex strategy meetings as identified by Service Manager
  • Chair complex core group meetings as necessary, as identified by the Service Manager
  • Ensure that all Looked After Children and children subject to child protection plans fully participate in decision making that affects them relevant to their age and understanding
  • Promote improvement in practice standards by monitoring and reporting on local examples of good practice by individuals and teams and any national examples identified by research or experience
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the multi agency network relevant to the aforementioned duties and provide specialist advice and consultation as needed
  • Participate in local service developments including planning, monitoring, review, evaluation, including undertaking case file audits and investigating complaints as required by the Service Manager
  • Work with the IRO team to develop the service delivered
  • Undertake Learning Together Reviews as directed by the service manager

Requirements of the Independent Reviewing Officer/Child Protection Chair:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Be registered with the HCPC
  • Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle
  • Experience of successfully managing child protection work in a qualified social work capacity
  • Experience of working and managing within a changing environment
  • Experience of working and managing multi agency child protection partnerships
  • Knowledge of Child Care legislation and guidance relevant to child protection
  • Experience in the delivery and continuous improvement of services for children
