Pay Rate: £42 - £44 per hour

Contract: Locum, 3-Months

Hours: Full-time

Duties:

  • Chair both Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences to either initiate or review the child protection plans for children who may be suffering or are likely to suffer significant harm
  • These conferences will be within statutory timescales, facilitating the full participation of professionals, parents and children and young people, and ensuring the views of children and young people are heard and given due attention
  • Chair our new Risk Outside the Home (ROTH) conferences, where children and young people may be vulnerable to risks from extra-familial harm, as well as providing specialist consultation and support to colleagues on a range of issues relating to child protection
  • Ensure the provision of an efficient service to children and young people in need of protection, through effective inter-agency working across the child protection system

Requirements of the Child Protection Chair:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • An experienced Child Protection Conference Chair to join our CP Conference Service
  • Someone who is committed to effective safeguarding practice across all services and places children and families at the centre of their decisions, and works relationally to achieve positive outcomes for the children we have the privilege to work for
  • Someone who can work constructively and creatively with peers, external stakeholders, and the social workers/managers responsible for direct work with the children who are, or maybe subject to statutory child protection plans to safeguard their welfare
  • Have extensive experience and a proven track record in working within the child in need and child protection arenas, as well as a very good understanding of supporting and planning for children in our care
  • Be proficient in working within the framework of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Public Law Outline (2014), London Safeguarding procedures, and Working Together 2023 guidelines
  • Be able to apply Continuum of Need (Threshold document), CARES practice model and the Practice standards as benchmarks for excellent practice which you will be expecting to see within your work
  • Have experience of chairing and managing complex family and multiagency meetings and be able to work with Social Workers, families, and partner agencies in developing complex child protection plans
  • Be able to constructively challenge actions and interventions that are not delivering the required outcomes for children and young people against their Child Protection Plan
  • Come with a strong sense of duty to protect and promote the welfare of the children needing our care and protection
  • Be able to play a key role in contributing to the performance management of the service so as to maintain and promote high practice standards and participate in quality assurance activities such as case audits
