Sanctuary Personnel are seeking a Senior Dietitian to work with our client and provide evidence-based nutritional interventions across various healthcare settings. Your role will involve comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, and clinical supervision. You'll actively contribute to service development, ensuring our strategies align with the latest evidence and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct nutritional assessments and develop management plans for adult patients autonomously.
  • Provide clinical supervision to junior staff and support the daily operations of acute and outpatient services.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to service audits and evaluations.
  • Deliver one-to-one counselling and group education sessions for patients and staff.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or Postgraduate Diploma/ MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Dietetic Association (BDA). Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable:

  • Accredited post-registration training in relevant areas.
  • Membership to BDA Specialist Interest Group.

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Specialised theoretical and practical knowledge of nutritional interventions across acute settings, including enteral nutrition.
  • Specialised knowledge of enteral feeding equipment and ancillaries.
  • Extensive professional knowledge and experience in acute and outpatient settings across patient pathways.
  • Ability to define responsibilities, accept accountability for own work, and recognise the limits of own authority within the role.
  • Understanding of the role of other healthcare professionals within specialist services (e.g., physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry, Specialist nurses).
  • Adherence to Codes of Conduct and Professional Standards of the HCPC and BDA.
  • Understanding of principles of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and audit, and its systematic evaluation and application.
  • Awareness of Health & Social Care legislation and current practice, including incident and 'near miss' reporting.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of delivering quality improvement within healthcare settings.
  • Understanding of Health and Care Services developments plans, new and existing services, and service innovations.
  • Familiarity with legislation relevant to specialist areas.
  • Specialised theoretical and practical knowledge of nutritional interventions across acute settings, including parenteral nutrition.
  • Experience in completing clinical audits/projects.

Technical Work-Based Skills

Essential:

  • Proficiency in using dietary analysis software and interpreting results.
  • Competency in using anthropometric equipment such as mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), ulna, handgrip, and tricep skinfold.
  • Experience in acute dietetic work across various specialist areas including GI surgery, neurology/stroke, and respiratory.
  • Experience in outpatient/community specialist work including home enteral feeding, respiratory, neurology, and complex nutrition support.
  • Proficiency in using enteral feeding equipment (e.g., infinity flocare pumps).
  • Good understanding of clinical governance and professional guidelines related to prescribing oral nutritional supplements in outpatient/community settings.

Desirable:

  • Experience in critical care dietetics.
  • Experience in problem-solving complex enteral feeding tube issues.

  • Effective communication of patient-related information to patients, team members, relatives, and other service providers through written and verbal communication, adhering to professional, legal, and local requirements.

  • Self-motivation, initiative, and good leadership skills.
  • Ability to make day-to-day operational decisions in seniors' absence and supervise junior staff, delegating caseloads appropriately.
  • Commitment to continuous service evaluation and improvement.
  • Support for critical appraisal, adaptation, and implementation of relevant national and international guidelines to support the delivery of best practice.
  • Proficiency in digital/IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365 and dietary analysis software.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience working as a general or junior dietitian across various clinical settings and specialties.
  • Minimum of 12 months clinical experience within the specialist area.
  • Understanding and experience in the ethical and moral dimensions of practice.
  • Experience in teaching and training other healthcare providers.
  • Experience in supervising/supporting junior or non-registered staff.
  • Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Experience in research.
  • Experience in dietetic student training.
  • Experience in project-based service delivery.
