Duties:

  • Carry out Psychological assessments as necessary, with patients/residents attending the inpatient/day and outpatient services
  • Develop and provide individual, family, and group therapeutic interventions/strategies to patients/residents as required
  • Work with and supervise Student/Trainee/Assistant Psychologists
  • Carry out research, especially in the area of service evaluation, regarding patients/residents attending the service
  • Identify psychological needs in the presenting patient population and develop proposals on how these needs could be met
  • Ensure that delivery of treatment and patient care is at the highest professional standards using an evidence-based, care planning approach
  • Plan discharge or transfer of the patient/resident between services as appropriate
  • Maintain records in accordance with service and professional standards, stay up-to-date with regard to Clinical Governance, and be familiar with conducting audits and analyzing data
  • Ensure that the Centre is at all times in compliance with statutory regulations and guidelines
  • Ensure that all psychology-led research projects are carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Clinical Governance Committee and/or the Board of Directors
  • Assist in the implementation of practice developments throughout the center and monitor their effectiveness
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all matters concerning patients/residents, staff and business of the Centre

Requirements of the Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist:

  • Be familiar with and support the advancement and implementation of ICT developments within the center
  • Familiar with managing personnel issues, and demonstrating leadership skills in supporting and advising staff if required
  • A recognised third-level degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) in psychology, which is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland
  • A recognised post-graduate professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health
  • Satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology and full-time post-qualification experience as a Staff Grade Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
