Educational Psychologist Salary: Negotiable

Duties:

  • Make a broad and positive contribution to Inclusion Teams in line with key strategic priorities
  • Enable the Department to fulfil its statutory duties relating to children and young people who have, or may have, special educational needs
  • Deliver psychological services involving the application of specialist skills and expertise, to provide support and challenge to schools and other settings with a view to promoting best outcomes for vulnerable learners and in line with the Inclusion Policy
  • Support the planning and management of effective transitions for vulnerable learners (aged 0-19 years)
  • Support and inform the development of enabling and collaborative networks between professionals, learners, schools and other settings
  • Work in partnership with other teams forming The Psychology and Wellbeing Service
  • Inspire parental confidence through working in close partnership
  • Promote the voice and participation of children and young people in all aspects of the role and to fully engage with children and young people, recognising their role as client and stakeholder
  • Ensure that issues relating to equality of opportunity and child protection are paramount within the role of the educational psychologist, and that all island-wide procedures are adhered to
  • Develop a lead role with a view to supporting and assisting Inclusion service managers in the development, co-ordination and delivery of strategy, policy and projects in this area

Requirements for the Educational Psychologist:

  • BSC in Psychology (must be a degree course recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS)) Education Doctorate in Educational Psychology and/or master’s degree in educational psychology
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council as an Educational Psychologist
  • A commitment to multi-professional working
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant guidance, good practice and research in the area of mental health and well- being in schools (prevention/ early intervention), including function and service delivery models for school- based counselling services, primary mental health workers and well- being facilitators
  • Understanding of the delivery of high performance and continuous improvement in services to children, young people and families
  • Practical knowledge of co- ordinating and responding to critical incidents in schools
  • Significant project activity (planning, co-ordinating, delivering, reviewing)
  • A good understanding of children’s Safeguarding issues
  • Knowledge of current Early Years Education strategy and policy
  • Ability to gain Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Safeguarding training
  • Makes sound professional judgements including on high risk issues about children, parents and carers
  • Understands and anticipates issues of political sensitivity
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a team member with shared goals and objectives
  • Able to formulate, negotiate and gain acceptance of decisions, judgement and advice
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • High level of written and oral communication skills across all media
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to adjust them to a wide audience
  • Works autonomously with good time management and ability to prioritise
  • Sound IT skills
  • Evidence of significant continuous professional /managerial development relating to the application of psychology
  • Broad based and successful experience as a senior educational psychologist evidenced through high quality consultation, casework and the supervision / support and professional development of colleagues
  • Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership in a multi- agency context
  • Experience of proactively engaging and developing relationships with relevant professional bodies (e.g. British Psychological Society and the Association of Educational Psychologists)
  • Successful track record of school improvement through working at a senior level
  • Experienced in analysing a school’s strengths and areas for improvement, including with the use of data, and making recommendations for improvement
  • Successful record of developing and sustaining partnerships and networks
