Pay Rate: £30 - £38 per hour (assignment rate)

  • Weekdays £30.00ph
  • Night/Saturdays £34.00ph

Main Duties:

 

  • As a Staff Nurse you will work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent hospital admissions.
  • You will undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, undertake reception screening, and offer clinics such as triage, long-term conditions, suturing, wound care, ear irrigation, and sexual health.
  • To run health promotion / harm-minimisation clinics in specific disease-related areas.
  • To ensure that clinics run smoothly and meet national and local priorities and guidelines.
  • Respond to medical emergencies as an emergency responder, co-ordinating care, and providing primary clinical care of a high standard to patients.
  • Deliver a high standard of clinical care in the primary care, emergency care, harm minimisation, health promotion and occupational health remits of prison healthcare; within the extent of your role, experience and level of expertise.
  • Undertake initial and follow-up individual health assessments at reception and health screening, referring to appropriate guidelines.
  • Assist the development of evidence-based nursing procedures / protocols in the prison setting.
  • Identify shortfalls in stock levels / failure of equipment and liaise with the senior supervisor on duty to arrange replenishment.

Requirements of the Prison Nurse:

  • Must be registered on the NMC and must have a relevant qualification in nursing
  • Prison clearance and experience is essential
