About the Job:

As a member of the occupational health team, you will actively contribute to the development and provision of Occupational Health Services to employees of our organization and external clients. Your role involves enhancing the health and wellbeing of all employees, utilising your professional clinical skills to offer guidance on fitness for work, health surveillance, screening, and wellbeing interventions while maintaining utmost confidentiality. You'll champion employee health and ensure their safety in the workplace environment.

Your responsibilities will extend to maintaining quality standards, aiming for accreditation, and staying abreast of national/local occupational health guidelines to assist in shaping organisational policies. Additionally, you will play a key role in enhancing the customer experience and fostering innovation within the Occupational Health Services.

Main Duties:

Fitness for Work

  • Conduct comprehensive fitness for work assessments for new employees, advising line managers on necessary adjustments or health surveillance requirements, and obtaining specialist reports in compliance with data protection principles.
  • Perform Driver’s Medicals adhering to occupational health policies and standards, including decisions on fitness to drive.
  • Administer health screenings for specific employee groups like fire-fighters and provide recommendations on fitness for work.
  • Manage health surveillance programs tailored to various job roles, including audiometry, spirometry, and assessments related to Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVs).

Management Advice/Referrals

  • Support effective sickness absence management for both internal and external clients.
  • Offer specialised advice to employees and managers during periods of illness or absence, producing professional reports outlining recommendations aligned with best practices and regulations.
  • Assess and advise on work-related adjustments, health needs, and liaise with senior Occupational Health (OH) personnel when necessary.
  • Efficiently triage cases through the manager referral system and provide timely support via the Occupational Health helpline.
  • Coordinate referrals to external support services as needed, such as counseling or medical consultations.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain and update confidential Occupational Health records in accordance with data protection regulations.
  • Identify and address potential risks to employees or the public, ensuring duty of care is fulfilled within GDPR principles.

Health Promotion

  • Organise and conduct health promotion activities and screenings in alignment with organisational initiatives.
  • Deliver tailored health promotion interventions to employees as part of the broader OH services.

Health Surveillance

  • Organise and conduct systematic health assessments for employees exposed to workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with risk assessments and statutory requirements.
  • Interpret health surveillance results competently and provide appropriate advice accordingly.

Clinical Governance and SEQOHS

  • Actively participate in clinical governance activities and contribute to service enhancements based on evidence-based practices.

Health and Safety

  • Provide advice and recommendations in line with current legislative requirements and uphold principles of workplace health and safety.

CPD/NMC Revalidation

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and meet NMC registration requirements.
  • Contribute to clinical supervision within the team.

Relationships

  • Foster positive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, supporting collaborative efforts to deliver services effectively.

Critical Incident Support

  • Provide support during critical incidents in the workplace as required, adhering to established protocols.

Equipment Calibration and Maintenance

  • Monitor and maintain medical equipment calibration and stock control.

Other Duties

  • Undertake additional duties within the scope of the role as determined by senior Occupational Health personnel.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience

  • Experience in management referral assessments, case management, and health screening.

Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding

  • Up-to-date knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Basic counseling skills.
  • Understanding of audit and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Proficiency in relevant IT tools and software.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with at least two years of post-registration experience and an Occupational Health Qualification (Degree/Diploma).

Desirable

  • Experience in contract management.
  • Competence in developing Quality Assurance standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
