Sanctuary Personnel is currently looking for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join a reputable healthcare provider in Isle of Wight. As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will play a crucial role in enhancing health and well-being by facilitating participation in meaningful activities. Your responsibilities will include managing a defined caseload, supervising Occupational Therapy students, providing leadership for junior staff, and contributing to the development of the Occupational Therapy Service.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication and Relationships:

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with users, carers, team members, and other agencies.
  • Form professional relationships with service users, respecting their views, autonomy, and culture.
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to participate in care program discussions and decisions.

Analysis and Judgement:

  • Utilise analysis and judgement skills for risk assessment, prioritisation, and decision making.
  • Reflect on ethical issues and provide guidance to junior team members as necessary.

Planning and Organising:

  • Exercise good time management and coordinate day-to-day activities.
  • Plan and organise complex activities and programmes, adjusting as needed.

Patient and Client Care:

  • Assess and implement Occupational Therapy interventions to empower patients and promote independence.
  • Work with service users to identify therapy goals and evaluate progress regularly.

Service and Policy Development:

  • Participate in planning, evaluation, and implementation of practice, clinical pathways, and protocols.
  • Contribute to the Occupational Therapy Service development plan and clinical governance arrangements.

Managing Financial Resources:

  • Ensure responsible maintenance of stock and safe use of equipment.
  • Exercise good personal time management and attendance.

People Management and Development:

  • Review own practice through professional supervision and appraisal.
  • Coordinate activities of junior staff and provide supervision and appraisal as delegated.

Information System Use and Management:

  • Maintain up-to-date records and activity data in accordance with standards.
  • Utilise relevant information systems for documentation and reporting.

Involvement in Surveys and Research:

  • Critically evaluate research findings and apply them to practice.
  • Participate in local audit and research projects to broaden skills.

Freedom to Act and Autonomy:

  • Be accountable for professional actions and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Work autonomously as required, seeking advice when necessary.

Key Skills Required:

  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration.
  • Post-registration experience relevant to specialty.
  • Continued professional development and understanding of best practices.
  • Ability to effectively manage workload and priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and integration of lifelong learning into own practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform role in a flexible manner.
