Summary:

  • Provide professional leadership and strategic direction for the performance, service delivery and development of service strategies across Acute Therapy Services, which includes the following Departments: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy and Dietetics.
  • Act as a catalyst for service improvement ensuring best practice is pioneered and adopted.
  • Participate in the Senior Management on call rota.
  • Be responsible for the management of Therapy Services and to be the professional lead and advisor for Therapy services on behalf of the Trust, ensuring the delivery of corporate objectives.
  • Be responsible for co-ordination of annual leave & study leave, and to be responsible for the management of appraisals, training, disciplinary & grievance matters, complaints, performance and sickness management within the department.
  • Be responsible for allocation of workload within the departments, adapting to unpredictable changes and demands on the service, to prevent a detrimental effect on length of stay. Ensure adequate staffing levels and skill mix are maintained and emergency situations within the departments are acted upon.

Requirements of the Head of Therapies:

  • Educated to Masters levels, working towards or equivalent experience
  • Management / Leadership Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of post graduate education applicable to the position.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Significant post graduate clinical experience at senior level within a relevant area of speciality.
  • Substantive experience of management within a relevant area of speciality
  • Demonstrable experience in a Head of Service role within Therapy Services.
