The salary for this permanent Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist job is £81,834 per annum.

Duties:

  • Provide strategic professional and clinical leadership to the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust through the Clinical Executive
  • Provide professional and clinical leadership within the service and across the region, ensuring the planning and development of a systematic response to service need, interpreting professional policies and ensuring that the service operates at the highest level of quality and current best practice, with research and development a major responsibility and taking a major role in the development and implementation of policy for the service as a whole
  • Provide clinical services at a high level of expertise, supporting and advising colleagues on all issues concerned with neuropsychological clinical practice and providing expert clinical consultation and professional guidance to clinical neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists and other clinicians within BIRT
  • Provide clinical leadership and direction for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust service across the relevant region, including the clinical leadership of the multidisciplinary team and support worker staff within the service and other related BIRT services in the region
  • Provide at a high level of expertise specialist neuropsychological assessment of adults with neurological injury, utilising information from a broad range of structured psychometric and semi-structured clinical methodologies and integrating it into a neuropsychological formulation of the service user based on a sound understanding of neuroanatomy, neuropsychology, neuropathology and brain behaviour relationships within the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust
  • Formulate and implement plans for brain injury rehabilitation or management of service users' brain injury problems based on a multi- factorial neuropsychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice, taking the lead in very complex cases within the Service/ Region the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust
  • Undertake at a high level of expertise a range of neuropsychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context and the ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention within the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust
  • Be responsible for providing a specialist neuropsychological perspective in the interdisciplinary assessment of service users and their families within the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust and particularly for very complex cases with ABI
  • Contribute expert highly specialist psychological advice to the multi- disciplinary formulation of appropriate therapeutic approaches or rehabilitation plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist neuropsychological aspects of their implementation in collaboration with other staff
  • Assess the suitability of service users for BIRT services and to undertake risk assessment and risk management for relevant service users and provide advice on the neuropsychological and behavioural aspects of risk to the multidisciplinary team
  • Undertake neuropsychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant service users and provide advice on the neuropsychological aspects of risk to other professionals
  • Consult with and provide specialist neuropsychological guidance to carers and families of service users within BIRT
  • Oversee the Clinical Governance of the interdisciplinary team at the service
  • Be responsible for relevant data collection on work activities, as required, and to maintain a high standard of clinical record keeping
  • Interpret the policies and guidelines concerning professional good practice for the provision of neuropsychological services in the area of brain injury in order to ensure the highest standards of service to the service user group
  • Support the Service Manager in all aspects of managing the service
  • Function as a member of the Clinical Executive within BIRT
  • Provide clinical consultancy and practice guidance to the other clinicians working in the BIRT services
  • Work in close liaison with both Director of Clinical Services and Director of Operations, who are both responsible for intellectual property rights in relation to BIRT services
  • Liaise effectively with referrers and purchasers of Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust services
  • Have effective working relationships with key individuals in the field of neurological disorder and rehabilitation
  • Be responsible for promoting and implementing agreed developments in brain injury rehabilitation service provision on behalf of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust
  • Take a leading role, in collaboration with other senior staff, in the planning and development of services for our service users with acquired brain injury
  • Take a major role in the enhancement of the functioning of the network of services for people with acquired brain injury
  • Take a leading role in the evaluation of the BIRT services by initiating, designing and implementing service-related research and evaluation projects in accordance with the Trust's processes
  • Provide leadership and management with regards to the selection and design of complex audit projects, guiding and supporting colleagues to develop service provision
  • Remain informed of and critically evaluate current research to support evidence-based practice in own professional work and to contribute this perspective in BIRT services
  • Provide advice to members of other professions as required on research design and method
  • Maintain a high profile in the field of neuropsychological rehabilitation through regular publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals, presenting at national and international conferences, convening and teaching on post qualification clinical neuropsychology courses and training days as agreed by the Director of Clinical Services
  • Maintain a high profile at a local and national level through engaging in relevant professional activities
  • Participate fully in supporting the activities of the clinical neuropsychology profession within the Trust, including attending relevant meetings
  • Keep abreast of developments in Clinical Neuropsychology, particularly in the field of acquired brain injury and rehabilitation
  • Support the culture where everyone is encouraged to learn from their mistakes through giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Facilitate and co-ordinate the efficient use of supervisory and training resources for the development of psychological practitioners within the BIRT services
  • Regularly provide clinical training placements for trainee clinical psychologists from appropriate courses, undertaking clinical supervision, teaching on placement, organising and monitoring workload and assessing clinical competence with the agreement of the Director of Clinical Services and the Service Manager
  • Supervise the research projects of trainee clinical psychologists from appropriate doctoral clinical psychology training courses
  • Supervise clinical psychologists who are pursuing the qualification for Practitioner Full Membership of the QICN
  • Take a significant role in the specialist training of other psychologists
  • Provide specialist consultant neuropsychological advice to colleagues within the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust
  • Teach psychology to other professions and trainees of other professions in collaboration with other professional tutors and teachers
  • Be regularly responsible for consulting to and advising colleagues from other professions on psychological assessment and treatment methods
  • Teach, advise and consult with carers and community groups on psychological elements of brain injury problems and their care
  • Be accountable for own practice and take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve own knowledge, professional competence and support continual learning and development
  • Use reflective practice, identify own learning needs through proactive participation in clinical supervision and the Trust's Being our Best performance review process, and demonstrate commitment to recording of continuous professional development
  • Work within the limits of own competence and seek advice and support when needed

Requirements of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist:

  • Be registered with all relevant regulatory bodies
