Sanctuary Personnel, an award-winning and renowned Recruitment Agency is looking for an experienced and dedicated Social Worker to work full-time based in St Martins, within the Looked After Children Team.

The salary for this permanent Social Worker job is £53,965 per annum.

Duties:

  • Hold case management responsibility for a number of Looked After Children and long term care requirement cases and to contribute to an effective service to these children, their parents and carers
  • Hold a caseload of Looked After Children where decisions have been made about permanence, ensuring appropriate care planning is in place and that the cases are reviewed within appropriate timescales
  • Case manage a number of care requirements which will be reviewed on an annual basis by CYCT
  • Undertake direct work with children and young people, including life story work
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular team around the child meetings
  • Maintain and support children in their placements, ensuring the child, their carers, parents and other professionals are consulted and kept informed
  • Attend court and CYCT, prepare reports and to represent Children and Family Community Services, both orally and in writing in an appropriate manner at all times
  • Attend strategy meetings and undertake child protection investigations when these occur on active cases
  • Undertake out of jurisdiction visits in the United Kingdom as required
  • Work in cooperation with parents, carers, colleagues and other agencies, ensuring the child is central to any process
  • Ensure that the States of Guernsey policies, procedures and legislation are adhered to
  • Actively participate in monthly supervision sessions with their line manager
  • Participate in a duty rota to provide an emergency service out of hours and also when in the work setting
  • Undertake any other duties as may be determined by the Director of Child Care Services from time to time
  • Work effectively with partner agencies, young people and their families to ensure an effective and sensitive service is provided
  • Participate in regular formal supervision and performance appraisal with the Team Manager

Requirements of the Social Worker:

  • Professional social work qualification – CQSW, DipSW, Social Work Degree or equivalent and a good general education
  • Hold current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Post qualification experience in a formal social work setting
  • Hold a full valid driving licence
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation that affects young people and their families and a good knowledge of child care practices relating to children in care
  • Ability to work with complex issues and analyse information
  • Experience of undertaking assessments, care plans and reviews of cases
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and work in partnership with young people, their families, carers and other professionals
  • Resilience and ability to cope in stressful situations
  • A desire to work creatively with young people to build on strengths to ensure that young people develop the strategies to go on and become successful functioning adults
  • Ability to make judgements and decisions with confidence and effectively manage a caseload
  • Ability to use information technology effectively
  • Ability to work with complex issues and analyse information
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Able to develop good working relationships with children and young people, their parents, carers and other professionals
  • Ability to cope in stressful situations
  • Ability to use information technology
