Main Duties:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments, develop plans, deliver, and evaluate perioperative patient care at a high standard.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities as a team leader, ensuring adherence to the 5 steps to safer surgery and maintaining the efficiency of surgical lists.
  • Foster teamwork within the Theatre Suite and across the hospital, promoting a collaborative environment.
  • Actively participate as a team member, rotating through various areas of the theater suite to foster cohesion and achieve team goals.
  • Efficiently manage departmental resources to optimize operations.
  • Contribute to the education, training, and professional development of fellow staff members.
  • Ensure all equipment is inspected before use and promptly report any malfunctions.
  • Adhere to departmental policies regarding infection control, including proper attire, maintaining cleanliness, decontamination, sterilization procedures, and practicing aseptic techniques diligently.

Requirements of the Senior Scrub Nurse:

  • Registered Nurse with a recognised postgraduate theater qualification or equivalent experience, or Registered ODP with a Cert HE/Diploma.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven post-registration expertise.
  • Sound knowledge of theater practices.
  • Experience in orthopedics and urology.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of surgical procedures.
  • Specialised expertise in operating theater care.
  • Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English, with the ability to build rapport, listen effectively, persuade, and negotiate.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing shift patterns as per departmental requirements.
  • Availability to participate in the on-call rota when necessary.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, navigate setbacks, and maintain self-awareness.
