Duties:

  • Be responsible for the delivery of Universal Health Services to designated areas and/or schools
  • Support the development of the service and work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective Universal Health Provision
  • Manage a caseload of designated schools or area as the named health professional, with responsibility for the planning and delivery of the public health initiatives to the caseload
  • Be responsible for identifying need within a school or community
  • Use a child, young person public health approach to address health inequalities
  • The promotion of good health and the prevention of ill health in the school, and the implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care
  • Support the implementation of service development, standard setting, clinical audit and benchmarking, to deliver needs-led evidence based care that supports the local and national priorities and policies
  • Be the principal point of contact for allocated schools in an area
  • Develop and deliver cooperative working arrangements with schools that support healthy outcomes for children, young people and facilitate partnership working across schools and other partner organisations
  • Work with public health, local statutory, private and voluntary providers, and users to develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all section of the schools community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion

Requirements for the School Nurse role:

  • School Nursing professional qualification, with entry onto the 3 rd part of the NMC Register
  • Recent nursing experience in the UK
  • Be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), and to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
