Sanctuary Social Care has a permanent vacancy for an experienced and dedicated Head of Service for a Looked After Children's/Permanence Team based in Bexley. The ideal candidate will possess highly developed specialist knowledge of social work practice in children's services and be registered with Social Work England.

The salary for this permanent Head of Service job is £86,040 per annum.

Summary:

  • As the Head of Service, you will be responsible for driving and coordinating the delivery of high quality standards in social work practice and service delivery with the children and families we serve. In this role you will need to work collaboratively with colleagues within the Council, partner agencies and other organisations to deliver a high standard of integrated services to the children and families in Bexley which we serve in line with our One Council approach at all times.
  • You will lead and manage your service area of the Council to deliver a safe, high quality, cost effective and timely service to our children, families, and workforce.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • You will model the Council's values and standards in carrying out the role. This purpose will be achieved by:
  • Contributing and helping implement the strategic improvement plan for Children's Services in order to achieve a good or outstanding level of service delivery through Ofsted inspection.
  • Helping ensure that all children's social work services are consistently applying high standards of social work practice for the best outcomes for children and their families.
  • Driving and coordinating the delivery of high quality standards within your own service area and area of line management responsibility.
  • Support the recruitment and retention strategy within Children's Services.
  • Ensuring that a robust quality assurance framework is fully implemented across the whole range of children's social work and that intelligence gathered is used to improve practice, drive up standards and secure the best outcomes for children and young people in the Borough.
  • Leading, planning, design and implement initiatives that improve the quality and standards of social work practice across Children's Services as a whole.
  • Making a significant contribution to the development of the vision for the service area for the future and managing the implementation of key aspects of the work of the Children's Services.
  • You will support our Signs of Safety practice model and solution focused approach we use when working with children and families.
  • As a member of the senior management and leadership teams, you will be expected to have good oversight and understanding of frontline practice, service delivery, systems, and feedback from children and families in order to help inform and deliver the overall strategic vision and plan for the Children's Service directorate. You will have a proficient ability to communicate in English and be able to influence others in an effort to help coordinate.

Requirements of the Head of Service:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Significant experience of managing and leading services within Children's Social Care
