Main Duties:

  • Plan and manage workload to ensure timely completion of tasks, reducing the need for follow-up visits.
  • Identify work required to resolve issues and determine necessary materials, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Measure and order appropriate stock for each job to maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Attend scheduled jobs within designated timescales, delivering quality workmanship.
  • Collect or order materials in advance of job attendance to minimize delays.
  • Perform First Fix Carpentry tasks including floor joists, timber-framed stud walls, ceilings, and timber flooring.
  • Carry out Second Fix Carpentry duties such as door frames, doors, ironmongery fitting, skirting, stairs, and handrail installation.
  • Conduct kitchen fitting tasks, including plumbing for first and second fix installations.
  • Undertake repairs as required, including masonry, plastering, patch repairs to wall finishes, tiling, and painting (desirable).
  • Ensure repairs meet letting standards and inform tenants of their repair responsibilities as per their tenancy agreement or Somerset Council guidelines.
  • Execute tasks and projects with minimal support or guidance, taking ownership of work quality and quantity.

Requirements of the Carpenter:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Carpenter or similar role.
  • Strong carpentry skills with proficiency in First and Second Fix Carpentry.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Knowledge of plumbing systems and experience with pipework installation (desirable).
  • Proficiency in masonry, plastering, tiling, and painting for repair tasks (desirable).
  • Accountability for work quality and quantity, with attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety standards and company policies.
