Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency has a new permanent position available for a Approved Mental Heath Professional within the Adult Service to work full time based in Bath.

The salary for this permanent AMHP job is up to £39,571 per annum

Main duties:

  • To work as part of the AMHP service for Bath & North East Somerset’s People and Communities Service and undertake Mental Health Act assessments. To work closely with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust, Virgin Care and Health, and other agencies in order to deliver this.
  • To be professional responsible for action in situations where personal liberty or safety is at stake.
  • When prescribed by a Team Manager, may be expected to concentrate on specific areas of work within specialist areas of client groups according to organisational needs.
  • To maintain case records and general administration related to the caseload as per departmental procedures so that work can be regularly reviewed.
  • To participate with the department’s staff development programmes and the promotion of specialist skills.
  • To carry out such other duties as are required and as are commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • When carrying out the functions under the Mental Health Act the AMHP is personally responsible for actions and decisions and must not act as the behest of supervisors or anyone else.
  • To ensure that any intervention is the least restrictive necessary in the circumstances.
  • To ensure strict compliance with the law (primary law and case law) and be cognisant of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice.
  • To co-ordinate assessments under the Mental Health Act including a multi-agency liaison role with doctors, police, ambulance and other services.
  • To assess risk of potential harm of services user to themselves or others.
  • Consultation with Nearest Relative as part of the Mental Health Act assessment in accordance with the legislation and advising the Nearest Relative of his/her rights and the patients rights and of the outcome of the assessment.
  • Where a carers needs are identified through the Mental Health Act assessment, to take responsibility to ensure a referral is made for these needs to be formally assessed )if agreed by the carer).
  • Maintain and keep a up-to-date portfolio which records Mental Health Act assessments and other statutory pieces of work undertaken, personal development and skills training undertaken, any supervision of AMHP trainees carried out and any other relevant practice.
  • Take responsibility for personal development needs in relation to AMHP practice, through attendance at appropriate training, reading, attendance at AMHP meetings and other ways of keeping up-to-date with mental health legislation and practice.

Requirements of this AMHP job:

  • A social Work Qualification or equivalent.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Continual professional development.
  • Social Work England registered.
