Job Title: Maths Teacher Location: Edinburgh Type: Permanent Shift Pattern: Part time Salary: Negotiable Sanctuary Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Mathematics Teacher to join our client, a prestigious school. To serve as a Form Tutor/Teacher, responsible for the pastoral care and academic progress of a group of pupils. Key Responsibilities To the Students: Foster a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere to stimulate student interest and development. Stay updated with curriculum developments, integrating changes as required. Prepare lessons using resources and strategies suited to student age and ability. Monitor, assess, and ensure student progress in line with national and school requirements. Provide support for students with specific learning difficulties and additional support needs. Encourage student confidence and responsibility in their learning. Ensure appropriate provisions for students with access arrangements in exams. Maintain student safety and raise awareness of relevant safety issues. Collaborate with the Head of Faculty and staff to create a stimulating learning environment. Participate in regular faculty meetings for communication, decision-making, and task delegation. Engage in the school’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. Contribute to the co-curricular activities programme and participate in educational visits. To the School: Maintain regular communication with the Head of Faculty regarding student matters. Collaborate with colleagues to uphold high behaviour standards. Implement and stay informed on school policies, including health and safety, trips, curriculum, assessment, and tracking. Use the School Improvement Plan for departmental planning and improvement. Uphold high personal standards of punctuality, appearance, and commitment. Participate in supervisory duties shared by all staff members. Cover for absent colleagues as per the rota. Seek authorisation for anticipated absences and provide notice for unavoidable absences due to sickness, ensuring work for classes is indicated. Attend all relevant staff meetings, in-service days, and recommended training courses. Attend parent/staff meetings or other student-related meetings as required. Complete and oversee student reports in accordance with guidelines and deadlines. Ensure the security and safe use of valuable faculty items. Report any damage to departmental areas, equipment, furniture, and fittings to facilities management. Candidate Requirements Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. A degree in Mathematics or a related subject. Proven experience teaching Mathematics at secondary school level. Strong understanding of the UK curriculum and assessment methods. Excellent classroom management skills. Ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities. Proficiency in integrating digital technology into teaching. Duties: Plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate courses for learners as outlined in the contract of employment, adhering to the agreed hours and weeks. Provide a detailed syllabus/course outline and an initial scheme of work for each course prior to commencement, and maintain these documents as part of the course files. Prepare and make available appropriate plans and learning materials for each session in advance for monitoring or lesson observations, and maintain these as part of the course documentation files. Offer subject-specific information, advice, and support to learners as part of teaching duties, including guidance on progression within Martec or at other institutions. Deliver Information, Advice, and Guidance to learners within the classroom, provide additional support as needed, and record these interactions on the pastoral log. Monitor, mark, and assess learners’ work in line with Martec's marking policy, maintain appropriate records, and prepare learners for exams and accreditation, aiming to return work within 10 days. Accurately mark the register at the start of each session and use it in case of a fire or other emergency. Monitor and evaluate courses, provide feedback to the Centre Head and/or Curriculum Managers as requested, and take responsibility for the quality of teaching. Ensure the appropriate and safe use of all equipment and facilities. Adhere to and support Martec’s policies, including those on Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance. Engage in continuous professional and curriculum development, participate in relevant training, and stay updated on subject matter and national/local developments in education. Support invigilation for other subject areas and participate in invigilation training. Perform other duties as required by management from time to time. Skills and Experience Required: In-depth knowledge and substantial experience in the specified subject area. Teaching qualification* appropriate for the Post-16 Sector, or willingness to undergo further training. Experience teaching, training, or working with students aged 16+. Understanding of the principles of post-16 education, including planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of learning. Awareness of diverse learning strategies and teaching methods suitable for various ability levels. Relevant trade experience in the automotive repair environment. Effective oral and written communication, numeracy, and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with staff and learners (at least Level 2 or willingness to obtain the equivalent qualification).
