Our support for six charities in six months

By Gemma Raw

Our team has been at it again. By donating money from our wages each month, we’ve raised £1,083 for six amazing charities in the first half of 2022, with more to come in the second half of the year.

In true Sanctuary style, we thought we’d share who we’ve distributed the funds too and why their work is so important.

To donate to any of the charities listed, please just click on the charity link in each heading. We know they’d appreciate the support.

January 2022 - Prostate Cancer UK

The first charity to receive £179 through our payroll donation programme was Prostate Cancer UK. The charity was chosen as the partner of Lucia Felstead in our finance team, Stefan, ran 26.2 miles throughout January. His motivation was his dad, who was recently diagnosed with the disease.

We’re delighted to say that Stefan beat his target of £1,500, raising a grand total of £1,860. It was quite a feat during the coldest month of the year!

February 2022 – Ipswich Hospital Charity (Sproughton Ward)

In February, we donated £181 to Sproughton Ward at Ipswich Hospital through the Ipswich Hospital Charity. Sproughton Ward was chosen as the doctors, nurses and allied healthcare staff do an incredible job at caring for people recovering from stroke. The money raised will go towards ongoing equipment costs.

March 2022 – Alder Hey Children’s Charity

March saw us donate £180 to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital through the Alder Hey Children’s Charity. The charity was chosen as the hospital helps 330,000 patients and families every year. The money directly funds medical equipment so that surgeons and clinical staff have the best equipment available to support children in their recovery.

April 2022 – Missing People

Another charity we know that makes a big difference, on a national scale, is Missing People. In April, we donated £184 to help fund the support for families affected by someone they love disappearing. We were quite shocked to learn that every 90 seconds someone goes missing in the UK and wanted to do our bit to help.

June 2022 – British Heart Foundation

Wherever we can, we always try to support the fundraising efforts of friends and family. Last month, we donated £180 by sponsoring Non-Clinical Recruitment Consultant, Tom Watson’s mum, who cycled from London to Brighton in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

With heart and circulatory diseases causing a quarter of all deaths in the UK, we can all relate to the amazing work that the foundation does. We’re delighted to say that Tom’s mum completed her cycle in record time.

If you have a charity you would like to put forward to benefit from our monthly employee donations, please email Kate Josselyn. We love hearing about charities, both big and small.
