Case Study: Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust
“Oxford Health has always found Sanctuary Health to be responsive to our needs and to provide high quality staff. Their compliance checks and rates all meet framework requirements and any issues are always highlighted. We use a lot of agency staff in the Trust and receive no complaints about Sanctuary staff or supplied workers.” - Linda Scott, Staffing Solutions Manager, Oxford Health NHS Foundation TrustSanctuary Health has been a preferred supplier to Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust since January 2016. During this time, we have worked hard to support hiring managers in building a resilient resourcing solution in line with the NHSi caps. The ChallengeBack in 2016, Oxford Health were experiencing recruitment challenges all too familiar with rural NHS Trusts. They were being charged too heavily by local recruitment agencies, who were also struggling to fill the vacancies. To help address this, Oxford Health set up a preferred supplier list (PSL). This was to reduce agency spend and give assurance over compliance and ability to fill vacancies in line with the NHSi caps. But this was just half the battle. They needed to award agencies with a place on their PSL capable of recruiting healthcare professionals across a large geographic area, covering several counties. The Solution Sanctuary Health specialises in filling long-term block bookings within the community for even the most hard-to-fill contracts in rural trusts. Oxford Health knew this and awarded Sanctuary a place on their PSL to help relieve some of the pressure. Our experienced consultants immediately sourced candidates across the local community. These included specialists in general practice, mental health community services and other acute inpatient services. Placing people and safe recruitment at the heart of our work, Oxford Health felt reassured from the start. Within the first three years, we placed 75 highly qualified candidates. Many were within roles previously considered ‘hard-to-fill’. Yet, we not only quickly filled the vacancies, we did so at the best rate and in accordance with the NHSi cap rules. To this day, we only ever present the Trust with fully compliant highly suitable candidates. We liaise with procurement, temporary staffing teams and the hiring managers on recruitment strategies for each locality.
Case Study: Priory Group
“Sanctuary Personnel are a PSL supplier to the Priory Group. Since their inclusion, Sanctuary has assisted in the supply of over 16,000 hours to our services. I have requested support on multiple occasions for services that have required short notice and Sanctuary has always diligently assisted where they can. Often, they’ll go above and beyond to ensure our needs are met. Their customer interaction and service are of a high quality. I have no hesitation in recommending Sanctuary. I am sure that they would only be a benefit to other businesses.” - Daniel Ashenden, Agency Manager, Priory GroupSanctuary Health has been supporting Priory Group as a preferred supplier since February 2018. Within the first 15-month, Sanctuary supplied the Group with 80 highly qualified multi-disciplinary health and social care candidates. Having overcome many resourcing challenges for the Group, Sanctuary has since been awarded a place on the Group’s national permanent PSL. The Challenge The Priory Group in Bristol approached Sanctuary Health at the end of 2017. It was struggling to find a solution to the geographic challenges in recruiting of health and social care professionals. Being rural, it was proving particularly difficult to attract experienced mental health nurses and mental health support workers. And with many of the teams being multi-disciplinary, they needed an agency that could quickly mobilise social workers, as well as psychologists and occupational therapists. The Solution Having already benefitted from Sanctuary Health’s support at a previous employer, the Clinical Director, knew Sanctuary would be able to assist. With a nationwide community of mental health professionals, Priory Group, tapped into an established talent pool. Initially, Sanctuary Health was tasked with recruiting candidates for a small number of sites. We quickly filled vacancies that had previously been difficult to fill. Just four months later, Sanctuary was awarded a place on the local Priory Group PSL following the Group’s procurement exercise. Our national coverage, specialist mental health recruitment services and safe recruitment practices, stood us in a strong position. Within the first 15 months of supplying candidates to the Bristol Priory Group we placed 80 candidates, including:Mental Health Nurses (RMNs)Learning Disability Nurses (RNLDs)General Nurses (RGNs)Healthcare Assistants (HCAs)Occupational Therapists (OTs)Social Workers Psychologists We met with each hiring manager to fully understand their resourcing needs. This made it easier to quickly identify suitable candidates. Although the Priory Group is privately run, it still benefits from our stringent compliance and safe recruitment processes - the same checks we apply in accordance with NHS frameworks. This means, the Group can be safe in the knowledge that each candidate that walks through their doors is fully compliant. We’re proud to say, our commitment to finding location and profession-specific resourcing solutions has seen us added to the Group’s national permanent PSL.
Case Study: Berkshire Healthcare NHS
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Trust is a long and established client of Sanctuary Health. Over the past 6 years, Sanctuary Health has been quick to identify hard-working highly qualified healthcare professionals, often at short notice, for the Trust. The Challenge Since February 2013, Sanctuary Health has been engaged with the Trust as a preferred supplier on the CPP framework. Being a foundation trust, they required candidates within a broad variety of healthcare disciplines. Most of the roles they needed to fill were within the ‘no high cost’ NHS cap area, which meant they were competing with other employers offering higher rates of pay. The Solution We knew we had to work extra hard to identify suitable candidates; those who we knew would enjoy working at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Our consultants went to great lengths to understand the benefits of working in each locality and were able to translate the benefits back to candidates. Immediately, we were able to assist the Trust with block-booking based vacancies within community settings, which helped relieve some of the frontline pressures. Sanctuary Health worked closely with the Trust to overcome the challenges that they were facing. To this day, this involves regular review meetings to share information on the market. Having recruited over 70 candidates, the Trust is confident in our ability to offer innovative resourcing solutions to help build a more resilient workforce. So much so that it has invited Sanctuary Health to assist with its permanent recruitment.Long-term partnership One of the many benefits of supporting clients over several years is that we get to see candidates develop their careers and progress into management. Team Manager in Berkshire Adolescent Service CMHT, Seb Byrne, who was once a candidate and is now a client at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Trust, says:“I have been using the Sanctuary team for over 10 years now, as a candidate and now a client. They always find me suitable hard-working staff at very short notice. Sanctuary have proved their worth over time as an excellent provider that has caused me to feel reassured when agency workers are represented by them. The team work hard to bring in a wide range of talented locum healthcare professionals to provide short- and long-term solutions dependent upon the roles that need to be filled.”
Case Study: Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust
“Sanctuary Health has been supplying AWP with nursing staff for some time and I can honestly say that they have been a pleasure to work with. They have a real understanding of the staffing pressures that we face, and their help has been invaluable to keep our wards staffing at required level. Their consultants are diligent in finding us the dependable, reliable and knowledgeable staff both Qualified and Healthcare Assistants. I would certainly be happy to recommend Sanctuary.” - Clare Pittaway, Bank Team Leader, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS TrustSanctuary Health has been supporting Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) with its recruitment since December 2013.The ChallengeAs with many NHS Trusts delivering crucial mental health services, AWP was struggling to find a recruitment agency that was able to provide a resourcing solution for all its community roles. Being rural, they had limited success with local recruitment agencies who did not have the same talent pool of mental health professionals to draw from. The Solution Sanctuary Health was quick to identify suitable candidates; those we knew would be interested in working in the community settings identified by the Trust. Most importantly, we were able to assist the hiring managers with recruiting multi-disciplinary teams. We swiftly placed fully compliant ready-to-work community mental health nurses (CPNs) as well as social workers in addition to the following roles:Support workersPsychologistsOffender health nursesRMNsCAMHS nursesOccupational TherapistsOver a five-year period, we have placed over 100 candidates with the Trust. Impressed by Sanctuary Health’s ability to find highly qualified mental health professionals, the Trust asked us to recruit candidates for its inpatient roles where we are offering the same level of placement fulfilment. By tapping into Sanctuary’s extensive talent pool of healthcare professionals, the Trust is also meeting its obligations to cap and control pay in accordance with the NHSi capped rates. Previously, this had been a difficult task. Today, we are proud to say that we remain one of Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust’s largest suppliers of community staff and we work hard to supply the Trust with a broader range of candidates across multiple localities.
Since their inclusion in July 2019, Sanctuary have assisted in supply of over 16,000 hours to our services.
