Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced Band 6 or 7 Speech and Language Therapist to work based in Harrow, within the Regional Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit.

The pay rate for this locum Speech and Language Therapist job is £27.81 per hour (assignment rate) and is a 1-month contract.

Main Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of patient with acquired brain injuries, providing detailed assessment and goal directed management of their swallowing and communication impairments.
  • Manage the swallowing and communication needs of patients who have a tracheostomy tube and participate in multidisciplinary tracheostomy care and tracheostomy weaning.
  • Participate in MDT assessment of patients presenting in a prolonged disorder of consciousness including the administration of formal assessments (WHIM and CRS-R) along with informal dynamic awareness assessments.
  • Participate in provision of CRT and FEES assessments as required by patients on the unit.
  • Refer to and participate in videofluroscopy clinic according to the needs of the wider LNWUH SLT service.
  • Assess, develop, provide, and monitor use of low and high tech AAC.
  • Implement MDT goal setting for patients on the RHRU.
  • Support mental capacity assessments for patients with complex cognitive and communication impairments and participate in best interests decision making processes as required for their care.
  • Make onward referrals to other Health Trusts and other organisations, to ensure continued appropriate services for patients discharged from the RHRU.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registered as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • At least two years of post-qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist, including experience with a varied and complex adult neuro caseload in an acute/post-acute setting.
  • Post-qualification training in dysphagia.
  • Experience of working at a level of disability and participation/social approach.
  • Experience of working with low tech AAC.
  • Working knowledge of dysarthia assessment and therapy, cognitive neuropsychological model of aphasia therapy, and cognitive communication disorder assessment and therapy.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
