Sanctuary Personnel, a leading recruitment company within the private and public sector has a locum role for a Band 7 Oncology Speech and Language Therapist to work full-time based in Waringstown.

The pay rate for this locum Oncology Speech and Language Therapist job is £25.52 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an ongoing contract.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the planning and management of own specialist clinical caseload
  • Provide Specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to the Specialist multidisciplinary palliative care team assessment and management of the client group
  • Lead, develop and maintain effective speech and language therapy communication and professional relationships within the community specialist palliative care team and hospice and other health and social care professionals including hospitals, GP’s, District Nursing and Nursing Homes
  • Provide specialist advice and education to speech and language colleagues, and a range of other Health and social care professionals, working across the Trust working with adults with specialist palliative care needs
  • Take a lead role in decisions re patient management, facilitating and planning appropriate onward referral, liaising with core community staff and specialist community teams
  • Represent speech and language therapy, the palliative care service and /or individual patients at multidisciplinary meetings, locally and regionally to ensure the delivery of a coordinated MD service
  • Contribute to the relevant statutory processes at all stages for the clinical specialty
  • Be actively involved in the collection of statistics for evaluation and monitoring of services and onward reporting to the Heads of Service
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with the RCSLT/Trust standards
  • Ensure other speech and language therapy staff, colleagues and students also comply with these standards
  • Be responsible for organising and planning own and others caseloads including domiciliary visits as necessary to meet service and patient priorities
  • Adjusting plans as situations change/arise to make best use of available resources under your control
  • Initiate and maintain effective liaison with carers, other professionals and agencies relevant to client group
  • Care for and maintain clinical equipment and test materials
  • Adhere to national and local standards and guidelines relating to professional practice
  • Maintain and further develop specialist clinical skills, knowledge and expertise relevant to palliative care and related policy and legislation
  • Access clinical advice/ support from Senior Clinical specialist for highly complex cases, and participate in regular clinical and case supervision

Requirements of the Oncology Speech and Language Therapist:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapist
  • HCPC registered as a Therapist
  • Recent post qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist
