Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency is currently looking for an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to work based in Peterborough, within Adult Learning Disabilities.
The pay rate for this locum Speech and Language Therapist job is £30 per hour (assignment rate) and is an ongoing contract.
Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist:
- Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy.
- HCPC registered as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- At least two years of post-qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Skilled in training others.
- An ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance and that of SLT staff.
- Proven track record of representing the views of others.
- Ability to contribute to service development and ability to manage change.
- Developed skills in conflict resolution and positive behaviour approaches.
- Skilled in the use of a variety of AAC to include Signing, symbol use, communication aids and apps.
- Developed general IT skills and skills in the use of relevant symbols/AAC software.
- Developed understanding of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).
- Knowledge of broader communication support for ALD e.g. Inclusive/Total communication.
- Knowledge of current trends, legislation and national policies relating to Adult Learning Disability e.g. Five Good Communication Standards (RCSLT 2015), Accessible Information Standard (2015) RCSLT position paper, Learning Disability Mortality Review (LeDeR).
- Knowledge of specific LD approaches, e.g. positive behaviour, person centred, functional communication strategies and knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Clinical experience of working with Adults with Learning Disabilities (ALD) with communication and eating and drinking needs.
