Sanctuary Health has a permanent job for an experienced and dedicated Specialist Doctor to work in Sheppey and Sittingbourne.

This salary for this permanent Specialist Doctor role is £72,840 per annum.

Job Purpose:

  • To provide medical cover within the four Virgin Care Community Hospital wards for adult rehabilitation (including stroke and neuro rehabilitation) within North Kent Community Hospital In-Patient Wards.
  • The wards offer a short period of rehabilitation for people who may continue to have medical/ rehabilitation needs which, although not requiring acute hospital services, cannot be managed at home.
  • The ward multidisciplinary teams include physiotherapy and occupational therapy with rehabilitation facilities including a physiotherapy gym and occupational therapy assessment area. Patients have access to dietetics, speech and language therapy and podiatry. Social Services have a ward coordinator who visits the ward regularly. Discharges are carefully planned with the multidisciplinary team in conjunction with social services or transfer to the community teams where appropriate.
  • The post holder will work alongside 2 other Specialty Doctors providing care to patients in all 4 community hospital wards.

Job Summary:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to provide day to day medical care and review of the patients supported and directed by the Clinical Lead Consultant.
  • Ward work includes the clerking in of new patients transferred from other hospitals and home with arrangement for appropriate investigations as necessary, daily ward review of inpatients, advice to nursing staff on the ward, writing in the medical notes, referral to other specialists when required and completion of discharge paperwork. Linking with all relevant services within the community, acute services where necessary and social care.
  • The specialty doctor will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings where patient rehabilitation progress is reviewed, and discharge plans are made. The post-holder will be directly involved in communication with patients and relatives and able to offer advice to health and social care colleagues regarding rehabilitation in the unit.
  • The specialty doctor will be expected to make every effort to ensure that patients are enabled to reach their rehabilitation goals and work with colleagues to ensure that the care to patients is in accordance with the NSF for older people and other relevant guidance on good practice.

Requirements of the Specialist Doctor:

  • Full GMC registration
  • At least 4 years' post-graduate training (or its equivalent on a part-time or flexible basis)
  • At least two of which will be in a specialty training programme for care of the elderly or as a fixed term specialty trainee in care of the elderly
  • The post is for 40 hours per week.
  • The post does not include weekend or on call work.
  • The 3 specialty doctors at our community hospitals are expected to provide cross-cover for each other's annual leave and/or sickness absence in agreement with the service lead.
  • Out of hours cover runs from 18:00 to 08:00
