Sanctuary Personnel, an award-winning and renowned Recruitment Agency is looking for an experienced and dedicated Social Worker to work full-time based in Caerphilly, within the Drug & Alcohol Team.

The pay rate for this locum Social Worker job is £28 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an initial1-month contract.

This work involves intensive contact with service users at home and in the community.

Duties:

  • Deliver a Social Work service to individuals with complex needs, experiencing drug and/or alcohol issues
  • Work within the remit set out within the Substance Misuse Strategy for Wales ‘Working Together to Reduce Harm 2008 – 2018’ and the Social Services and Wellbeing Act, with adults in need of support, in order to prevent harm, improve health and maintain recovery
  • Ensure social work is provided within the policies and procedures of the Directorate
  • Ensure that the quality of social work practice meets the National Occupational Standards and Codes of Practice for social work
  • Ensure that safeguarding concerns are investigated or communicated to the relevant person for action to be taken
  • Assess and manage risks in relation to individuals, families, carers groups and communities
  • Support individuals to represent their needs, views and circumstances
  • Manage complex ethical issues, dilemmas and conflicts
  • Contribute to the management of resources and services
  • Work within multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational teams, networks and systems
  • Ensure that interventions with service users and carers are managed in a confidential context
  • Prepare for and work with individuals, families, carers groups and communities to assess their needs
  • Bring concerns in relation to the quality of social work practice, assessments and care plans to the Team Manager
  • Ensure breaches of contract / concerns about the quality of service provision are brought to the attention of Contracting and Quality Assurance for action
  • Ensure that the service is delivered within the equality commitment of Caerphilly County Borough Council and is anti-discriminatory and addresses the language and communication preferences of service users and carers
  • Monitor the effectiveness of care plans in terms of user carer satisfaction and review all aspects of the Service Users’ Care Plans and outcomes
  • Identify unmet needs and bring this to the attention of managers in order to inform the planning and commissioning process
  • Maintain effective communication with all relevant stakeholders significantly users and carers to ensure that a continuum of care is created and maintained
  • Participate in regular supervision and appraisal
  • Develop practice standards within a Performance Framework
  • Attend departmental meetings as required
  • Liaise with other departments and agencies
  • Maintain accurate, accessible, comprehensive and easily understood casework recordings
  • Attend relevant training to improve own knowledge and skills
  • Offer advice to students within the team
  • Work within the policies and procedures of the Council including recognising the duty to protect vulnerable adults, children and young people

Requirements of the Social Worker:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work Wales registration or equivalent regulators in England, Scotland or Northern Ireland
  • Significant senior level frontline experience within Adults’ Services
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to work with a high level of autonomy
  • Willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check/any other checks as required
  • Understands and demonstrates the principles of confidentiality
  • Understands and demonstrates commitment to the Council's policies
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal development
  • Successful completion of the Consolidation of Practice Programme within the first three years of practice (if qualified after 1 April 2016)
  • An understanding of the strategy documents pertaining to substance misuse e.g.
  • Knowledge of the safeguarding responsibilities for social workers in working with vulnerable adults and children
  • Knowledge of the Continuing Health Care framework
  • Knowledge of assessment and care planning processes for working with vulnerable adults and children and their carers
  • Knowledge of IT systems, databases and programs
  • Understanding of the complex ethical issues, dilemmas and conflicts pertinent to working with people whose lives are affected by drug and/or alcohol
  • Ability to undertake assessments with people experiencing substance misuse issues
  • Ability to assess and devise care plans in a creative manner
  • Ability to use IT databases e.g. Microsoft Outlook
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritise work
  • Ability to work in partnership with others
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Experience of effective assessment and care planning
  • Experience of working with people who have issues around substance misuse
  • Experience of working with parents who misuse substances
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary Team and inter-agency working
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluating service delivery
  • Commitment and enthusiasm towards achieving positive outcomes for service users and Carers
  • A commitment to Continuing Professional Education and Learning (CPEL)
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the borough to visit clients and attend meetings
