Sanctuary Personnel, an award-winning and renowned Recruitment Agency is looking for an experienced and dedicated Social Work Team Manager to fill a full-time role based in Bedford, within the Fostering Team.

The salary for this permanent Team Manager job is £50,419 - £53,678 per annum.


  • Manage a team or service in a defined geographic or specialist area in line with business planning, performance standards and the requirements of best value, in order to contribute to the achievement of local and national objectives
  • Be responsible for the management of the identified social work service and, where appropriate, other related services in a given geographical area or specialism
  • Manage, monitor and ensure the effective delivery of the service to the highest professional standard
  • Be a member of the local management team to provide support to the Head of Service and to participate as a representative of the Council, as required, in other structures established for multi-agency working
  • Ensure the effective allocation of work within the team, ensuring that stated protocols for responding and processing enquiries is adhered to, within the guidelines of Working Together
  • Support all members of the team by ensuring that regular supervision and communication takes place on an individual and team basis
  • Implement an informed and professional approach to service delivery with an awareness of changing national and local priorities
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of operational instructions and provide practice guidance, making use of national guidelines and research to ensure that the highest standards of practice are achieved and maintained
  • Be responsible for the delegated budget in line with Council procedures and regulations or any agreed pooled budget arrangements to ensure effective use of financial resources
  • Ensure data is entered accurately onto all appropriate electronic recording and monitoring systems used within Bedford Borough, to enable the effectiveness of the service to be demonstrated against objective performance criteria
  • Provide and utilise effective management information and quality assurance systems and to ensure that high standards for service delivery are achieved
  • Contribute to the timely analysis of management information to inform and improve service delivery
  • Monitor, evaluate and review performance targets, identify deficiencies and take remedial action where necessary
  • Set Service/Team objectives and targets linked to national and local performance indicators, legislation and guidance
  • Carry out your duties with full regard to the Local Authority policies and procedures, including the LSCB Safeguarding Procedures
  • Ensure the requirements of the Complaints Procedure are complied with and, if required, respond to complaints
  • Ensure that all work undertaken complies with health and safety policy and procedures
  • Ensure that all work is delivered to children, young people and their families/carers and to communities, in a manner that complies with equality principles. and to ensure that services are available and accessible
  • Undertake any other duties or tasks commensurate to the post as may be required by Senior Managers
  • Staff appointments including those relating to seconded/devolved staff from partner agencies
  • Disciplinary matters
  • Budget management
  • Building management as required
  • Statutory Child Protection Investigations
  • Admissions to Care
  • Chair multi agency decision making meetings
  • Managing devolved budget within allocated resources
  • Responsibility for pooled budget where appropriate
  • Commissioning of services as required and agreed

Requirements of the Team Manager:

  • A recognised and relevant professional social work qualification (Degree / Diploma in Social Work)
  • Registered on Social Work England
  • Management experience
  • Have due regard for the equality duty of the Local Authority
  • PQ1/Advanced Award (desirable)
  • Post qualification experience
  • In depth knowledge of professional practice, the legal framework and service delivery issues in the relevant area of work
  • Ability to ensure that staff produce evidence based quality assessments that demonstrate how the needs of children and young people will be addressed, delivered, monitored and reviewed
  • Demonstrable experience of setting standards, monitoring quality and performance
  • Commitment to helping others to change and improve practice and effectively addressing under performance and capability issues
  • Experience of multi-agency working and a commitment to facilitating robust and vibrant partnership working in practice
  • A commitment to ensuring compliance with recording and data entry coupled with the ability and willingness to analyse and use complex data to drive performance management
  • Highly developed ability to plan and prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines and to facilitate this skill in others
  • Pro-active approach to the role with an ability to motivate self and others and able to work on own initiative
  • In depth understanding and knowledge of equal opportunity issues and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Able to work outside conventional office hours as required, and to travel about the Borough and beyond
  • Willing to undertake a DBS check
  • Ability to travel around the county
