Sanctuary Personnel, an award-winning and renowned Recruitment Agency is looking for an experienced and dedicated Senior Project Engineer to work based in Derbyshire, within Waste Management.

The pay rate for this locum Senior Project Engineer job is £24.05 per hour (Assignment rate) and is an ongoing contract.

Main Duties:

  • To manage contracts for waste management services and infrastructure and to prepare contract documents and reports.

  • To ensure former landfill sites are managed in accordance with best practice guidance and legislative requirements.

  • Provide technical direction to staff, project team members, contractors, and service users.

  • Develop self and others through guidance, coaching and mentoring.

  • Proactively manage and monitor performance – setting targets, providing results, information, and reports to ensure project delivery.

  • Build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable the development and delivery of services.

  • Ensuring the risk of environmental pollution from closed landfill sites is minimised by designing, managing, and maintaining waste control systems for landfill gas and leachate in full compliance with Environment Agency guidance, practice, and legislative requirements.

  • Commission and supervise investigations and studies by consultants into technical and safety aspects of closed landfill sites and other waste infrastructure to ensure the environmental safety of the sites. 

  • Interpret and implement new and developing legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure services and projects are delivered safely and effectively with continuous improvement.

  • Manage and control devolved budgets.

  • Manage tendering, award, and supervision of contracts in accordance with financial regulations.

  • Prepare bids for internal and external funding.

Requirements of the Senior Project Engineer:

  • A degree or equivalent in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related subject with appropriate relevant post qualification experience.

  • Experience in the management and maintenance of landfill gas and leachate control systems in compliance with best practice and legislative requirements.

  • Recent preparation of contract documents, contract management and site supervision of engineering and/or waste management contracts and infrastructure projects.

  • Project management of a variety of high value schemes.

  • Budgetary control and monitoring skills.

  • Resolution of claims skills.

  • Management of staff skills.

  • Technical, analytical, and practical problem solving relative to waste management and associated civil engineering work.

  • Knowledge of pertinent National/European legislation and guidance with regard to waste management.

  • Knowledge of Specifications, and Conditions of Contracts, Methods of Measurement, and contract Procedures.

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM Legislation.

  • The ability to build and sustain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • The ability to guide, coach, mentor, and influence effectively at all levels of the organisation.
